I have usually recommended that color book authors create proofs with Blurb and print elsewhere because of the high cost of color POD. But today Blurb has added traditional offset printing and fulfillment services that make them a contender in the DIY color book marketplace. Not to mention their BookWright book creation tool that builds a fixed-format EPUB at the same time, so you can deliver your beautiful color books to the iPad, too.
Blurb?s portfolio of free software tools include Blurb?s BookWright, BookSmart and Bookify in addition to a plugin for Adobe InDesign plus full integration into Adobe Lightroom for you pro photographers. Their high-quality POD printing service lets you easily order proofs before you order a quantity of books… or produce just a few custom books for a private event.
The simultaneous build of fixed-format EPUB is simply awesome.
So a big Indie Pub hug to Blurb for finally making it easy to recommend to my color book authors for ease-of-use, quality and, finally, affordability!
