GAIL WINSTON gail@winstonglobal.org  Gaza War Diary  Sep. 7 DAY 62

Dear Family & Friends,

Yes, the Word-War is still ongoing.  Israel will be criticized no matter what she does.  Therefore, she must do the Right thing(s)!  Never give up!  Never give up our Homeland!  Stand up for our Rights to Our Land & Our People, because it says to in Our Book!  Remember G-d gave the Torah to us as the Jewish people to bring to the world.

That the Islamic world stole it, corrupted it into their words in order to rule over the Jewish people is their problem.  That?s why they are the Bloody Death Cult, willing to kill with brutality all who are different from them?even other Muslims who think differently.

Muslims of different cults never keep agreements between themselves.  For sure, they?ll never make or keep any honest agreements with the Jewish people.  Check out the results of OSLO 1, 2 & the HEBRON PROTOCOL then chuck them all into the wastebasket.

So, after a beautiful Shabbat, full of children & grandchildren, back to work, pounding the computer keys to bring some righteous sanity to our people & our world.

Have a wonderful, quiet, peaceful night, All the very best, Gail/Geula/Savta/Mom

Joan Rivers Dies at 81  ARUTZ 7  IsraelNationalNews.com By Tova Dvorin  9/4/2014, 10:21 PM

Media personality dies after being taken off life support ? & just weeks after expressing support for Israel.

WORDS OF SUPPORT:  Just three weeks ago, Rivers defended Israel in a video clip, noting during the height of anti-Israel media coverage that Hamas terrorists began firing rockets on Israeli civilians first, prompting Israel?s fifty-day offensive, Operation Protective Edge in Gaza.   ?They started it. We now don?t count who?s dead. You?re dead; you deserve to be dead? Don?t you dare make me feel sad about that? You don?t get out (when Israel gave you fair warning); then you know you?re an idiot,? Rivers said, in a response to celebrity website TMZ.   The clip quickly went viral & earned her both scorn & admiration, & gained further publicity after thousands of people signed a petition to cancel Rivers? scheduled tour in Britain due to her pro-Israel stance. Comedic legend:  Born Joan Alexandra Molinsky on June 8, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, she graduated from Barnard College in 1954. Rivers was well-known for her self-deprecating humor as much as her acid tongue

From:  TheTimesOfIsrael.com:  Rivers made waves recently after setting off on a lengthy pro-Israel rant when asked by TMZ for her opinion on this summer?s Gaza conflict, saying Hamas was to blame for the flare-up with Israel as ?you cannot throw rockets & expect people not to defend themselves.?  She also said international press should be ?ashamed? of their coverage of the conflict, which tends to favor the Palestinian narrative.

This is our Land now & forever -we are here to stay By Yehudit Tayar  ARUTZ 7   IsraelNationalNews.com  9/7/2014, 8:09 AM

Yehudit Tayar lives with her family in Bet Horon in the Benjamin?      B?H         Shavua tov.  Can this be a ?routine week??  This Shabbat we learned the chapter ?Ki-Teze? & now as forever it is imperative for us to remember what we are taught in this chapter, ?Remember what Amaleq did to thee by the way, when you were come out of Mitzrayim : how he met thee by the way, & smote the hindermost of thee, all that were feeble in thy rear, when thou wast faint & weary; & he feared not G-d. Therefore it shall be, when the L-rd thy G-d has given thou rest from all thy enemies round about, in the Land which the L-rd thy G-d gives thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shall blot out the remembrance of Amaleq from under the heaven; thou shall not forget.? 25:17

We who were born with the blessing of the State of Israel, a National Homeland for the Jewish people have the responsibility to remember that we must ensure the safety of the Jewish people no matter where they live.

What we witness today with the intense hatred of the Jewish people & Israel all over the world makes this an even greater responsibility for us to ensure the security & safety of Israel.

One look at the Middle East is enough to realize how important Israel is also to the ?free world?.  While even during war our first consideration is morality, & we are willing to take enormous risks to attempt to save the lives of those not involved in terrorism or attacks against us, the enemy is intentionally using civilians as human shields & murdering innocent people in front of the entire world & bragging about it.

It is so easy to point an accusing finger at Israel & place the onus of the blame of a lack of ?peace in the Middle East? on us & the ?occupation?.  The fact that the terror & murder of Jews in the Land of Israel began long before even the State of Israel is ignored & even erased.  The continuous pre-occupation on the need of a so-called Palestinian State side by side with Israel while placing the blame on Israel is a political ploy to blindfold the entire world to the truth.

My family on my Father?s side were settlers in the Land of Israel long before the State was declared.  My family, against their wishes, had papers including birth certificates calling them, ?Palestinians? who were born in Palestine.  My family who lived in the Galilee in Safed disclaimed this & declared ?we are Jewish & this is our Land, Eretz Yisrael.?

From the early 1800?s long before the establishment of the State countless times the Arabs who lived side by side with our families in Jerusalem, Hevron, Tiberias & Safed attacked & brutally murdered their neighbors including many members of our family.

Why?  There was no occupation then by the Jews.  The Arabs & Jews together were under foreign rule ? so why?

I remember when my husband Ami, & myself moved up to Bet Horon in the Benjamin Region over 34 years ago when the media would come to interview me they were shocked.  Back then in the newly rebuilt community (the history of Bet Horon begins in the Book of Joshua ) seeing a small group of young families & how we lived in caravans with no running water, electricity, not a flower or bush outside (until we hand watered them after we planted them) they asked me,? How can you live in this dangerous place with your children?  With babies? You may be patriotic but to endanger your children??

I replied that the place is not dangerous, it is the terrorists who are dangerous & to quote my Great-Grandfather who lived in Safed where as in the rest of the Jewish communities there were attacks & Jews murdered by their Arab neighbors, ?we will teach those who hate us that there is a continuous Jewish presence in the Galilee.  We will not move from here.?  I explained that back then there was no State of Israel, but now there is & we also in the Jewish tradition will teach those who hate us & wish to murder us that this is our Land, & we will stay here forever.

I reiterate this promise, this is our Land now & forever & we are here to stayIt would be wise for the rest of the world to finally realize how important it is that we are here not only for the Jewish people- but for the entire world.

The White rhinoceros from Ramat Gan by Gonen Ginat   ISRAEL HAYOM Sep. 5, 2014

In the middle of the week, something happened at the Ramat Gan safari that stirred a lot of excitement among

afficionados of this sort of thing: A white rhinoceros, also known as a square-lipped rhinoceros ? an endangered species ? gave birth to a female calf. The safari management was pleased to inform the media of this rare occurrence. They told supporters of their involvement in a worldwide effort to save this endangered species, & that to further that end, the calf?s two older male siblings will soon be transported to zoos abroad. The female calf will be kept in Israel, with her mother.

I should mention that researchers have discovered that thousands of years ago, rhinoceroses roamed in the Israeli wild as well. Unlike today, when rhinoceroses are confined to the Gan Safari Zoo, back then they could be found at the office of Ha?aretz newspaper & on central Rothschild Avenue in Tel Aviv, but they have become extinct.

Which reminds me of another type of animal that once lived in Israel: crocodiles (in ?Nahal Taninim? ? literally: croc crocodile stream).

All this brings us to the story about the Israeli who went to bathe at the beach near the mouth of Nahal Taninim river. As he entered the water he yelled to the lifeguard: ?It is pretty strange that they call this place crocodile stream. Do you have any idea why there are no crocodiles here??

?Because every time a crocodile comes,? the lifeguard yelled back, ?it gets eaten by a shark.?

In any case, let us go back to the Israeli rhinoceroses for a moment: The birth of the rhinoceros calf immediately calls to mind the famous Eugene Ionesco play ?Rhinoceros,? which deals with conformity. In Hebrew, if someone is described as having ?become a rhinoceros? they are said to be following the herd without any independent thought. Indeed, many many of the Israeli rhinoceroses, belonging to the square-lipped species, are displaying the symptoms of ?becoming a rhinoceros?: They all talk the same & think the same. Over the last two weeks, for example, the square-lipped rhinoceros continuously repeated references to a ?sour feeling? regarding the operation in Gaza. It was as though they are not familiar with any other combination of words. Maybe they really aren?t.

* * *

Incidentally, the white rhinoceros isn?t really white. It is only a bit lighter than the other species of rhinoceros. Most rhino rhinoceroses are closer to the color beige, like the color of U.S. President Barack Obama?s new suit.

The American media was abuzz this week at the sight of Obama?s latest fashion choice. The U.S. president appeared wearing a suit that looked like it was bought at the fanciest boutique in the Palestinian city of Nablus (it must be acknowledged that Obama?s new fashion sense certainly falls into the Romanian category as well).

But wait, who says this fashion choice is a new thing? So far, it seems that Obama has long been a fan of Gaza couture.

Don?t they know?

United Nations peacekeepers fled danger in Syria this week & were taken to safety in Israel. Don?t they know that the U.N. UN has condemned Israel?s war crimes hundreds of times, while having condemned Syria only once? According to their logic, it would have been far safer for the peacekeepers to remain in Syria, wouldn?t it?

Ideology is not dead

About four years ago, American intellectual Daniel Bell died. Bell was probably most famous for his collection of essays ?The End of Ideology: The Coming of Post-Industrial Society & the Cultural Contradictions of Capitalism.? Bell envisioned a new world in which society would rid itself of ideologies & religions. In their stead, he saw a technology-based society founded on information services.

Thirty years after the book was written, when the Soviet Union began to collapse, American political scientist & Soviet culture expert Francis Fukuyama wrote a book entitled ?The End of History & the Last Man.? He represented the general spirit of the time ? an optimistic hope that the collapse of the Soviet bloc would march the world toward a unified, Western, democratic liberal capitalism.

Can academics with the mannerisms of intellectuals be trusted? Well, as the Islamic State group makes a bigger & bigger splash, Muslim ideology appears to refute the theory that ideology as a concept is over. Instead of a New Middle East, a band of beheaders is thriving alongside the Hamas leaders who declare again & again that ?we love death like Jews love life.?

Which brings us to the story about the Christian, Muslim & Jew who were talking about their Buddhist friend who had died. They talked & talked & ended up asking each other: ?When you die, just as they put your body in the ground, what would you like to be said??

The Christian said, ?I would like people to say that I was a good Christian & a good family man.?

The Muslim said, ?I would like people to say that I was a good Muslim & that I made pilgrimages to Mecca.?

The Jew said, ?I would like people to say, ?Look, he?s moving.'?

At its heart, a wall

This week a wall was erected in the middle of a school in Beit Shemesh so that ultra-Orthodox girls would not be able to see the secular students. The following day, after the wall was taken down, the ultra-Orthodox community protested the move by bringing the girls to study outside the school, in the street, without any walls at all, & plenty of secular people all around. Now it all makes sense.

What else would they do?

The director of the Government Advertising Agency has filed a police complaint alleging that he received serious threats for failing to post enough advertisements in the ultra-Orthodox newspaper Hapeles. This reminds me of a story (originally by Rabbi Altar Druyanov) about a family from a small Jewish town that operated a shop. One day, the wife came happened to visit her husband at the shop & found a gang of Cossacks robbing the place. While the robbery was in session, the husband sat in the corner & studied Talmud.

?The Cossacks are robbing the shop!? she screamed at the top of her lungs.

Her husband slowly raised his gaze from his book & asked: ?What do you want them to do? Study Talmud??

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU  J

Anti-Israel propaganda has been driven from the start by lies distortions & a massive rewriting of history. Blame for everything is piled on the Jews, while the crimes of the Arabs, including the Palestinians, are exonerated.

The American Vice-Consul, along with British officers & the British High Commissioner, Sir Alan Cunningham, stated at the time that the Arabs were encouraging flight while the Jews were doing all in their power to prevent it.

The Hagana?s behavior was the exact opposite of ?ethnic cleansing.? Once order was restored, Arabs were appointed to key posts & part of the supplies originally earmarked for the Jewish inhabitants were given freely to the Arabs.

Just now I?m feeling a bit ashamed of being Irish. Although our music, dance, & Nobel-prize winning literature have helped us punch above our weight in the ring of international culture, our politics has never been a model for anyone ? & it is getting worse.

Back in 2011, for instance, Israel?s Foreign Ministry stated that Ireland had undoubtedly become the most hostile country to Israel in the European Union, ?pushing all of Europe?s countries to a radical & uncompromising approach.?

Oddly enough, Ireland also has a reputation as a country relatively free from anti-Semitism. According to John Gallen, anti-Jewish incidents are thirty-two times more likely in the U.S. than in the Poblacht na hÉireann. One of the reasons there are almost no anti-Semitic incidents in Ireland is that there are very few Jews in the Irish Republic in the first place: under 2000 (0.04% of the population).

This information is based on data from the European Jewish Congress & the Stephen Roth Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism & Racism, Tel-Aviv University; but I remain skeptical.

Anti-Israel rhetoric in Ireland is commonplace, & the press regularly prints diatribes against the Jewish state. A particularly galling example of this occurred when the Irish Examiner, a newspaper with a long history & a claimed readership of 189,000 per day (but a circulation of about 37,000), published an op-ed piece on July 31 by a little-known journalist, Victoria White, the wife of Emanon Ryan, leader of the Green Party in the Irish parliament, the Dáil.

Entitled, ?We are washing our hands of the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians?, this piece was an uncompromising diatribe, a spittle-flecked assault on Israel that dragged out the usual false claims of ?ethnic cleansing? during Israel?s War of Independence in 1947 & 1948.

Ms. White seems either to have stumbled on or been given an infamous & widely discredited book by an anti-Israel Israeli ?historian,? Ilan Pappé. His book, The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine (2006), has long been castigated as a non-history in which facts are distorted, important information disregarded, & only one side of the story told. There is no space here to write a review of Pappé?s fiction, but it is the sort of book, like the equally discredited, totally fraudulent ?Protocols of the Elders of Zion,? that poorly educated pro-Palestinian activists revel in without setting eyes on other histories by far better historians than Pappé.

It is obvious that White has not read anything else. She does not quote even once from any of the major historical studies of this crucial period, such as Efraim Karsh?s deeply-researched Palestine Betrayed (2010) or Benny Morris?s archive-based re-evaluation, 1948: The First Arab-Israeli War. White thinks she knows all the answers. She does not.

Now, an op-ed like White?s in a small Irish newspaper may be small enough beer in itself, yet it is important to comment on what it stands for. White may be taken to stand for that vast brood of anti-Israel writers, journalists, & hacks who cobble together a warped narrative out of one or two books & a couple of pamphlets by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, while quite happily dismissing professional historians who work on archival material from across a mountain of sources.

The demonization of Israel through false or simplistic images of the struggle for Israel?s independence has penetrated right to the heart of the pro-Palestinian soul. Like most amateurs, White never checks or cross-checks her sources. She takes sides without any mastery of the facts, & fetishizes Palestinian victimhood as if it were the golden standard by which all moral issues must be judged. So her diatribe merits a rational, historical refutation.

Where better to start than the beginning, five lines into her argument, where she says that, in Ilan Pappé?s book, ?I read about the campaign to ethnically cleanse the city of Haifa of Palestinians.? ?Oh dear,? I thought, ?not Haifa.? She could not have chosen a worse example, whether she had studied for years or just stuck a pin in the map.

There was no ?ethnic cleansing? in Haifa. What happened is closely recorded by Arab, Israeli, British & even American observers, & sources cited by Efraim Karsh in Palestine Betrayed. In a chapter entitled, ?Fleeing Haifa,? they paint a picture totally at odds with Pappé?s fiction. White evidently does not understand the proper context here, namely that, following the UN decision to partition the Palestine Mandate (then under British control), the Jews gladly accepted their much diminished portion of the territory. The Arabs did not & instead embarked on a Civil War. When the Jews finally established their state as the British took themselves off back to Blighty, seven armies from various Arab nations invaded Israel, provoking a war that lasted until the signing of an armistice agreement on July 20, 1949, following an astonishing Israeli victory & much anguish, which still continues, for those Arabs who had set out to exterminate the Jews in a religious war.[1]

At that time, Haifa was the second city in Mandated Palestine & the key seaport. It was inhabited almost equally by Jews & Arabs, between whom relations were in the main cordial. After the war, a Palestinian myth about Haifa grew up & dominated world perceptions of the ?expulsion? of Arabs from the city. We now have reliable documents, however, that tell another story.

We now know that Arabs started fleeing from Haifa even before the 1947 partition plan, when wealthy Haifan Arabs, knowing that war was inevitable ? as they planned to launch it ? started to go to places they considered safe. In October 1947, a British intelligence briefing stated that ?leading Arab personalities are acting on the assumption that disturbances are near at hand, & have already evacuated their families to neighboring Arab countries.?[2]

By November, more were fleeing, even though no Jews had threatened them. Things got worse by December of that year, when 15,000-20,000 Arabs, out of a population of almost 71,000, had already fled.

By that time, Syrian, Lebanese & Iraqi volunteers had entered Haifa with the aim of driving out the Jews. There was general pandemonium & growing fear ? a fear greatly exacerbated by scaremongering propaganda from the Arab radio & press. In January, the National Committee, Haifa?s leading Arab body, started to recommend mass flight. They followed this up in March by ordering the removal from the city of women & children. By early April, the population had dropped to about half its original size.

It was April 21-22 when the Hagana troops were forced to engage in a battle with armed Arab irregular troops. The Jewish Zone Commander issued a guarantee that if the Arabs chose to remain, they would enjoy equality & peace. The city?s Jewish Mayor, the elderly Shabtai Levy, pleaded with the Arab leadership to let his Arab citizens stay, but they turned him down. Those same Arab leaders were asked to sign an extremely fair truce, but they responded by declaring, ?We will not sign. All is already lost, & it does not matter if everyone is killed so long as we do not sign the document.? Within days, only 3,000 Arabs remained in the town.

On the 27th of April, the Jewish force distributed a leaflet that urged fleeing Arabs to return. ?Peace & order reign supreme across the town & every resident can return to his free life & resume his regular work in peace & security.?[3] There were radio broadcasts to this same effect, in all of which reassurance was given to the Arabs. This came after the Hagana had taken the town. The Hagana?s behavior was the exact opposite of ?ethnic cleansing.? Once order was restored, Arabs were appointed to key posts, & part of the supplies originally earmarked for the Jewish inhabitants were given freely to the Arabs.

Is this Zionist propaganda? Well, the documents are there, & the American Vice-Consul Aubrey Lipincott along with British officers & the British High Commissioner, Sir Alan Cunningham, stated at the time that the Arabs were encouraging flight while the Jews were doing all in their power to prevent it. On April 25, Lippincott cabled Washington: ?Jews hope poverty will cause laborers [to] return [to] Haifa as many are already doing despite Arab attempts [to] persuade them [to] keep out.?[4] The following day, the British district superintendent of police remarked that, ?every effort is being made by the Jews to persuade the Arab populace to stay & carry on with their normal lives, to get their shops & businesses open, & to be assured that their lives & interests will be safe.?

On April 28, the U.S. consul sent another cable: ?Reportedly Arab Higher Committee ordering all Arabs [to] leave.? & on that same day, Cunningham reported that ?British authorities in Haifa have formed the impression that total evacuation is being urged on the Haifa Arabs from higher Arab quarters & that the townsfolk themselves are against it.?[5]

Karsh summarizes the situation at the end of a separate article: ?In Haifa, one of the largest & most dramatic locales of the Palestinian exodus, not only had half the Arab community fled the city before the final battle was joined, but another 5,000-15,000 apparently left voluntarily during the fighting while the rest, some 15,000-25,000 souls, were ordered or bullied into leaving against their wishes, almost certainly on the instructions of the Arab Higher Committee. The crime was exclusively of Arab making. There was no Jewish grand design to force this departure, nor was there a psychological ?blitz.? To the contrary, both the Haifa Jewish leadership & the Hagana went to great lengths to convince the Arabs to stay.

?What happened in Haifa reflected the wider Jewish attitude in Palestine. All deliberations of the Jewish leadership regarding the transition to statehood were based on the assumption that, in the Jewish state that would arise with the termination of the British Mandate, Palestine?s Arabs would remain as equal citizens.?[6]

Perhaps this is enough to show convincingly that the repeated claim of ?ethnic cleansing? in 1947-48 is an outright lie. Countless other documents & public records tell this same story. It is a matter of history, & not speculation for ill-informed journalists to make merry with.

Jewish fighters

In all places where Arab inhabitants refused to fight against Israeli forces, everyone stayed put and, after the war, settled down as respected Arab citizens of Israel. There was no ethnic cleansing & no expulsion from Shafa Amr, Bu?eina, Uzayr, Ilut, Kafr Kanna, Kafr Manda, Rummana, ?Ayn Mahil, Tur?an, Iksal, Dabburiyya, Reina, Sakhnin, Hurfaysh, Fasuta, Dayr Asad, Dayr Hanna, Sajur, Rama, Nahf, Jish, Majd Kurum. & even settlements where heavy fighting took place were left intact. Today, Israelis & tourists flock to Abu Ghosh for the Arab restaurants there, still run by Israeli Arabs who, for centuries, have been providing welcome hospitality to sojourners near Jerusalem. The story of an absence of ethnic cleansing in Haifa is only part of the much wider story of the war as a whole, during which Arab leaders & military commanders ordered Palestinian Arabs to leave in order to allow the Arab Liberation Army, the Arab Legion, & other Arab armies to get through so they could more easily slaughter the Jews. In other places, as in Haifa, Arab inhabitants fled but were driven out in only one instance, after intense fighting between Israeli troops & foreign invading troops supplemented by local residents. This happened in the joint towns of Lydda (now Lod) & Ramla, taken by Israeli forces in July 1948. ?This,? writes Karsh, ?was the first, indeed the only, instance in the war where a substantial urban population was driven out by Jewish or Israeli forces.?[7]

When Israeli troops took Nazareth in June, strict orders were given that no holy places were to be desecrated in the smallest way. David Ben Gurion, Israel?s first prime minister, gave an even blunter order: ?No people are to be moved from Nazareth?.[8]

Let Benny Morris have the final word: ?Neither Ben-Gurion nor the Zionist movement ?planned? the displacement of the 700,000-odd Arabs who moved or were removed from their homes in 1948. There was no such plan or blanket policy. Transfer was never adopted by the Zionist movement as part of its platform; on the contrary, the movement always accepted that the Jewish state that arose would contain a sizeable Arab minority.?[9]

Victoria White, like so many haters of Israel, bases wild claims on invalid information. She refers to incidents of Israeli massacres at Deir Yassin & Sasa. There is no doubt that Israeli forces behaved badly in both incidents, but they happened in time of war & in the teeth of fierce fighting on the Arab side. The story of a great massacre at Deir Yassin was blown up out of all proportion by Arab propagandists. Between 100 & 120 villagers died (many, perhaps most, of them combatants). These figures were immediately inflated to 254 by almost everyone. Before the fighting there, the Etzel & Lehi troops were specifically ordered not to kill women, children or POWs.[10]

At Sasa only 60 died. White also mentions a massacre of 230 Arabs at Tantura. The only source for this is her old friend Ilan Pappé. In fact, just over 70 villagers were killed, not in a ?massacre? but when they put up a hard resistance to Israeli troops fighting in an all-out war for their country?s survival.

The truth is that Israeli alleged ?war crimes? in 1948 pale in comparison with Allied crimes & massacres during World War Two, which included many killings of German & Italian prisoners of war. Such crimes, though despicable, were a direct result of fighting an enemy whose every action was a crime. Placed within that context, the small number of Israeli excesses & the tiny number of rapes ? about one dozen recorded ? committed by Israel soldiers do not lose their moral censure, but acquire a very different context. What?s worse, White is happy to retail exaggerated stories of Israeli misconduct yet totally avoids any reference to massacres committed in cold blood by Arab soldiers: the fighting on May 12-15 at the Etzion Bloc, when the Jewish defenders surrendered & 240 men & women were slaughtered; the Hebron massacre of 1929, when 67 Jews were murdered, or the infamous ambush of a convoy of lecturers, students, nurses & doctors travelling to Jerusalem?s Hadassah Hospital, when 78 Jews were murdered, most of them roasted alive. Doesn?t that bear telling? Wasn?t that a war crime? Do I sense, from Pappé?s & White?s lack of balance, that only Jews commit terrible deeds, even when they don?t?

Anti-Israel propaganda has been driven from the start by lies, distortions, & a massive re-writing of history. Blame for everything is piled on the Jews, while the crimes of the Arabs, including the Palestinians, are exonerated. Israel was & is a legally established state, & the 1947-48 war was initiated, sustained, & fought as a jihad by Arabs in an attempt to kill as many Jews as possible two years after the end of the Holocaust.

The charges against Israel ? just like those being made today over Gaza ? must be refuted one by one through the judicious use of accurate historical facts, an emphasis on the morality of Israel?s struggle to survive, an equal stress on the immorality of those who seek to wipe the tiny nation out, & a firm refutation of charges brought by the ignorant & the gullible.

?At least 10 Israeli Arabs have joined ISIS in Syria?

isis
Israeli defense officials warn jihadist groups may use Israeli recruits to gather information & carry out future terror attacks on Israel ? 18 foreign fighters from the Islamic State group killed in Syrian air raid, human rights group reports.Yoav Limor, Reuters & Israel Hayom Staff

Shin Bet security service officials believe that at least 10 Israeli Arabs have joined the Islamic State terrorist group & are currently fighting with the organization in Iraq & Syria, officials briefed Israeli leaders recently. The information has been discussed at length behind closed doors.

The Shin Bet assessment rests on the fact that since the outbreak of the civil war in Syria in March 2011, dozens of Israeli Arabs have joined various rebel groups currently fighting the Syrian army. The Shin Bet?s intelligence suggests that since the beginning of the civil war at least 25 individuals ? Israeli Arabs known to hold radical views ? have left Israel to join the ?jihad? or holy war.

Meanwhile Thursday, 18 foreign fighters from the Islamic State, including an American jihadist, were killed in a Syrian air raid on a town near the militant group?s main stronghold city of Raqqa in eastern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

The Syrian human rights group, which has tracked violence on all sides of the three-year-old conflict, said reliable sources reported that top Islamic State leaders who happened to be in the municipal building of Gharbiya at the time of the raid were among the foreign fighters killed.

The building had been used as a headquarters of the hard-line group, according to the monitoring body.

Another air raid on Thursday that hit a former intelligence headquarters in the city of Abu Kamal near the border with Iraq that was used by the Islamic State also killed an undisclosed number of their members, the monitoring group said.

It said the Syrian raids allowed 13 detainees held by the IS fighters to escape during the chaos.

Many of the other rebel groups operating in Syria have been losing ground to rising extremist organizations affiliated with al-Qaida, mainly the Islamic State & the Nusra Front.

Until recently, the Nusra Front was considered the stronger of the two & al-Qaida?s official branch in Syria, & the fact that it had Israeli Arab operatives among its ranks was known to the defense establishment. The group is also active on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, & its operatives have recently seized control of the Quneitra border crossing with Israel.

Last week, the Nusra Front captured 45 Fijian peacekeepers serving with the U.N. Disengagement Observer Force in Syria. The group has issued three demands in exchange for their release, saying it wants to be taken off the U.N. terrorist list, wants humanitarian aid delivered to parts of Damascus, & wants compensation for three of its fighters it says were killed in a clash with U.N. officers.

The Islamic State group, meanwhile, has been able to overrun western Iraq & eastern Syria, terrorizing the residents of those areas by staging mass executions of Shiite Muslims, Christian, Yazidis & Kurds.

ISIS is said to be holding over a dozen Westerners hostage, & it has so far released two separate videos depicting the savage beheading of American journalists James Foley & Steven Sotloff.

On Wednesday, Defense Minister Moshe Ya?alon signed an order declaring the Islamic State group an ?unauthorized organization,? thus officially adding it to Israel?s terror watch list.

The order, issued following a Shin Bet recommendation to that effect, will allow the state to take legal action against anyone affiliated with the group, as well as anyone fundraising or recruiting operatives on its behalf.

While the number of Israeli Arabs leaving for Syria is low, the Shin Bet noted a disconcerting rise in the interest the sector has been showing in jihadist groups.

The Shin Bet, together with Military Intelligence, the Mossad & the Israel Police, have increased their intelligence-gathering efforts on Israeli Arabs who join the rebel groups in Syria for two reasons: the first being the fact that Syria is designated as an enemy state that Israelis are barred from visiting; & the second stems from the potential threat these individuals pose to national security.

Defense officials said that many of the individuals in questions are known extremists, whose views have become even more radical during their stay in Syria & Iraq. That, compounded by the fact that they have undergone military training, increases the threat they may carry out terror attacks in Israel.

Another concern raised over information derived during several suspects? interrogations, is that radical jihadist groups will use Israeli Arab operatives to gather intelligence on Israel, which they may use to carry out future terror attacks.

Meanwhile, Israel said on Thursday it had prevented local media from reporting that Sotloff held Israeli citizenship on top of his American one, in a bid to reduce the risk to his life after he was captured by ISIS terrorists. Sotloff, who was Jewish, immigrated to Israel in 2005.

The Islamic State group?s video of Sotloff?s beheading called the execution retaliation for U.S. airstrikes in Iraq. His dual nationality was made public after the White House authenticated the footage.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, offering condolences to Sotloff?s family on Thursday, cast him as an example of liberal Western values shared by both the U.S. & Israel.

Speaking during a ceremony honoring the Israel Police Counterterrorism Unit, Netanyahu said, ?Steven was murdered because he represented, for these murderous terrorists, a symbol of the West ? that same culture that radical Islam wants to eradicate.

?I think there is the beginning of a certain realization, with many in the world understanding better than in the past that the threats against Israel are the same as the threats against them.?

The Israeli government became aware ?at an early stage? of Sotloff?s captivity that he was Israeli, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told Channel 10 Thursday.

Lieberman noted that the military censors had immediately placed a gag order on those details ? a decision which under Israeli law is within their purview.

The foreign minister further said that while it is known to authorities that some among Israel?s 20-percent Arab minority have expressed solidarity with the Islamic State group, ?ISIS in not an immediate military threat to Israel, but there is no doubt that the ISIS ideology is spreading, & this is no less a dangerous matter.

?Unfortunately, we have already seen identification with ISIS & ISIS flags, both within the State of Israel, in Arab Nazareth & in other places,? he said.

Lieberman sidestepped a question on whether Israel had tried to rescue Sotloff, saying only that ?there have been attempts, both American & European, to free hostages. Unfortunately these attempts did not succeed.?

An unnamed senior Israeli official briefed on intelligence affairs told Reuters that he had no knowledge of any effort by the government to rescue Sotloff, who was kidnapped in Syria in August 2013.

An Illegal Arab Settlement in the West Bank?  By Moshe Phillips & Benyamin Korn

September 5, 2014 ? Daily Mailer,FrontPage

Another illegal settlement has arisen in the Judea-Samaria (West Bank) territories, the New York Times reports. Surely there will soon be an expression of ?deep concern? from the Obama administration, a furious resolution from the United Nations Security Council, & a letter from twelve angry congressmen mobilized by J Street.

Oh, wait. It?s not a Jewish settlement ? it?s an Arab settlement. Cancel the outrage!

A feature article in the New York Times on August 31 reports that the Palestinian Authority is building a new settlement called Rawabi. The first 600 apartments are already complete, out of a projected 6,000 units that will house an estimated 40,000 people.

While Jewish communities in the same area, with even larger populations, are called ?settlements? by the Times & the rest of the world news media, Rawabi is for some reason characterized as a ?town? & a ?city.?

Why is one man?s community called a ?settlement? & another?s a ?town? ?

Because a ?settlement? sounds like a foreign implant ? something that has no business being there. A ?town? sounds normal & natural. Supporters of the Palestinian cause ? whether in the news media, the State Department, or misnamed ?peace? groups ? want to award Judea & Samaria to the Palestinian Arabs. They want everyone to recognize those territories to be ?Palestinian.?

The problem they face is that there are three significant obstacles to calling the territories ?Palestinian?:  international law, history, & a text of religious history called the Bible.

According to international law, Jews have at least as much right as Arabs to build towns in Judea & Samaria. All of the documents related to the governing of those territories throughout the past century ? the Balfour Declaration, the League of Nations Mandate, & so on?specifically endorse the right of Jews to build there. The territories have never been part of a ?Palestinian? state which made them legally off-limits to Jews.

And according to the historical record, Judea & Samaria belong to the Jews. That?s why they have been called ?Judea & Samaria? since ancient times. The Jews had a sovereign state there for nearly a thousand years, then maintained a continuous presence for the past 3,000 years. Arab roots in the area are remarkably shallow: the vast majority of the Arab residents are the children or grandchildren of migrants from Arab countries who immigrated when the Jews began developing the land in the 1920s & 1930s. The local Arabs traditionally called themselves ?southern Syrians? & never claimed any separate ?Palestinian? identity until they began using it as a propaganda weapon against Israel in the 1960s.

Tens of millions of Bible believing Christians in America, & many more around the world, join millions of Jews in acknowledging that the Bible repeatedly & unambiguously refers to Judea & Samaria as the heart of the Jewish national homeland. As birth certificates go, that?s pretty strong.

That?s a lot for proponents of the Palestinian cause to overcome. Some of them have used terrorism to try to intimidate Israel into withdrawing. Some have used threats of boycotts & international isolation to frighten the Israeli public & its Diaspora supporters.

And some use the weapon of language to subtly wage war, wielding labels & slogans & assumptions as rhetorical swords to slash their opponents. Exhibit A: The illegal settlement of Rawabi.

Hamas: Give Us West Bank So We Can Destroy Israel by Khaled Abu Toameh http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/4676/hamas-west-bank  September 7, 2014 at 5:00 am                                                                     What Hamas & Iran are saying is that if & when Israel pulls back to the pre-1967 lines, they, together with other Palestinians, would bring weapons into the West Bank to achieve their goal of eliminating the ?Zionist entity.?

Abbas?s initiative also ignores that Hamas could easily seize control of the West Bank through force or through the promised free & democratic elections, which recent polls show Hamas is assured of winning. Abbas is demanding something that would bring about his own demise.

If the West Bank had one quarter of the weapons that the Gaza Strip has, Israel would be eliminated in one day. This is what Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar told worshippers during a sermon he delivered on September 5.

Zahar, who, during Israel?s Operation Protective Edge, spent his time in hiding, was speaking during Friday prayers at Martyr Abdullah Azzam Mosque in Gaza City.

Abdullah Azzam, by the way, was a Palestinian ?scholar,? teacher & mentor of Osama bin Laden, the slain leader of Al-Qaeda. Azzam was killed in Pakistan in 1989.

Back to Zahar, who delivered his first sermon since the Egypt-brokered cease-fire between Hamas & Israel was announced in late August: he chose to remind Palestinians & the rest of the world of his movement?s dream to destroy Israel.

?If only the West Bank had one quarter of what Gaza has of resistance tools, the Israeli entity would end in one day,? Zahar declared, reiterating the claim that Hamas had scored a ?big victory? in the war.

The Hamas leader went on to criticize those who still have doubts as to whether Israel could be destroyed.

?Those who were skeptical as to whether Palestine could be liberated are no longer doubtful after the enemy was hit from the Gaza Strip,? Zahar said. ?Can you imagine what would happen if the enemy is targeted from the West Bank, which makes up 20% of the size of Palestine??

Zahar?s wish to see the West Bank flooded with rockets & mortars & other ?tools of resistance? was echoed by other Hamas & Islamic Jihad leaders & spokesmen after the recent war in the Gaza Strip.

Zahar himself was quoted recently as saying that Hamas?s goal now was to ?move the Gaza example of resistance? to the West Bank.

Even the Iranians seem to think that the time has come to turn the West Bank into a launching pad for attacks on Israel.

During the war in the Gaza Strip, a senior Iranian commander of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohamed Reza Naqdi, announced that Tehran had plans to ?arm Palestinians in the West Bank? in order to destroy Israel.

Naqdi boasted that the weapons used by Hamas & other Palestinian groups during the recent war had been manufactured & supplied by Iran.

The threats by Hamas & Iran regarding the West Bank show why it is critically important for Israel (and the Palestinian Authority) to insist on the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip as part of any long-term cease-fire agreement.

Even more significantly, these threats underline the need to keep the West Bank a demilitarized area in any future peace agreement, especially one that would see the establishment of an independent & sovereign Palestinian state.

Moreover, these threats support Israel?s insistence on maintaining permanent security control over the border with Jordan. Without such a presence, Iranian-made weapons would easily find their way into the West Bank.

What Hamas & Iran are saying is that if & when Israel pulls back to the pre-1967 lines, they, together with other Palestinians, would bring weapons into the West Bank to achieve their goal of eliminating the ?Zionist entity.?

Zahar does not even believe that there is a need for large amounts of weapons ? just one fourth of what Hamas & Islamic Jihad already have in the Gaza Strip are sufficient, in his eyes, to destroy Israel in one day.

In the aftermath of Operation Protective Edge, it is not difficult to understand why flooding the West Bank with weapons poses an existential threat to Israel.

But this is also something that would wreak havoc on Palestinians in the West Bank.

Fortunately, Mahmoud Abbas & his Palestinian Authority are fully aware of attempts by Iran & Hamas to turn the West Bank into a base for terrorism & jihadis.

Thanks to Israel, they are also aware of Hamas?s effort to topple the Palestinian Authority & replace it with an Islamist government.

Last month, Israel announced the arrest of more than 90 West Bank Hamas members who planned to stage a coup against Abbas & renew terror attacks against Israelis. Were it not for Israel?s effort, Abbas & his top officials would have been either killed or imprisoned by Hamas.

That episode explains why Abbas has now ordered a massive crackdown on Hamas members & supporters in the West Bank. During the Gaza war, Abbas refrained from such measures against his Hamas rivals out of fear of being accused of ?collaboration? with Israel.

Mahmoud Abbas

Abbas will be able to rein in Hamas in the West Bank only if he pursues security coordination with Israel.Since the cease-fire went into effect, Abbas?s security forces in the West Bank have detained more than 80 Hamas men. They have also stopped Hamas-affiliated preachers from delivering sermons during Friday prayers.

However, it would be unrealistic to expect Abbas or any Palestinian government to disarm Hamas & its allies in the Gaza Strip.

Abbas & the Palestinian Authority would not be able to survive for one day in the West Bank without the presence of the IDF, especially given Hamas?s rising popularity among Palestinians in the aftermath of the war.

Last week, Abbas sent two senior officials, Saeb Erekat & Majed Faraj, to Washington to present his ?new peace initiative? to Secretary of State John Kerry.

Abbas?s initiative envisages the establishment of a Palestinian state within three years either through negotiations or by having the UN Security Council impose a solution on Israel.

Abbas?s initiative, however, ignores the threat from Hamas & Iran to use the West Bank as a launching pad for destroying Israel. It also ignores that Hamas could easily seize control over a future Palestinian state by force or through the promised free & democratic elections, as assured by a recent public opinion poll published by the Ramallah-based Palestinian Center for Policy & Survey Research.

Abbas is demanding a full Israeli withdrawal to the pre-1967 lines (including the border with Jordan). But he cannot offer any assurances that Hamas & Iran would not use this border to smuggle weapons into the West Bank.

In fact, Abbas is demanding from the Israelis & Americans something that would bring about his own demise. His only option for now is to hold onto power in the West Bank & continue to work with Israel against the common enemy ? Hamas. The day Hamas agrees to lay down its weapons & abandon its dream of destroying Israel, he will then be able to go to the U.S. & Security Council & ask for an independent state next to Israel.

Dear Friends,

We are seeing before our eyes the fulfillment of the Nations fighting among themselves & then after they are weakened coming against Israel for the final war. We live in times where we have seen Tunisia, Egypt twice, Libya, Iraq, Syria all go through upheavals. The good L-RD has been merciful to us having Hezb?Allah, Syria & Iran fighting Al Qaeda & ISIS in the north & El Sisi fighting Al Qaeda & the Muslim Brotherhood in the South. Quietly we were allowed to fight Hamas in the south without making waves but unfortunately without winning.

On Friday Hamas promised a renewed round once they get resupplied via various Sinai tunnels. We blew up 32 tunnels going into Israel but who is to say there isn?t many more?

By Bill Gertz Washington Free Beacon September 2, 2014:      Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, & western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa. Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks & included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York & Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.      The official said the aircraft are a serious counterterrorism concern because reports of terrorist control over the Libyan airliners come three weeks before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 attacks & the second anniversary of the Libyan terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi. Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the Benghazi attack, which the Obama administration initially said was the result of a spontaneous demonstration against an anti-Muslim video. A senior State Department counterterrorism official declined to comment on reports of the stolen jetliners. A second State department official sought to downplay the reports. ?We can?t confirm that,? he said?.

Media stoke up anger against Israel  by Benjamin Pogrund

Was the SA media coverage of Israel?s bombardment of Gaza unbalanced & riddled with blindly reported inaccuracies?  Israeli soldiers mourn the death of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, who was killed in a suicide bomb attack during an operation in Gaza City. Photo: & Siegfried Modola/Reuters

The first day of a three-week visit to South Africa in August began badly: I read an article in the New Age by Jane Duncan, professor of journalism at the University of Johannesburg, in which she sneered at what she called ?the Israeli line? that the country was ?acting in self-defence? against Hamas rockets & tunnels.

Fresh from an overnight flight from an Israel at war, I wondered how else to describe a country?s response to barrages of up to 200 missiles a day, landing indiscriminately, & to uncovering 32 tunnels burrowed up to 3km under its territory for terrorists to invade & commit mass murders & kidnappings.

I marvelled too at her claim that Israel ?was founded on the dispossession & displacement of Palestinians?. Can she really know so little about the tangled events of 1948 after the United Nations decision to partition the then Palestine, the Jews? acceptance of it, the Arab rejection & the war they waged (unsuccessfully) to destroy the new Jewish state? How can a journalism professor offer such a simplistic & inaccurate rendering of well-known history?

Worse followed. The point of her article was to urge journalists to forget about ?objectivity? in reporting the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ignore ?balance?, she said. Instead, ?truth? must dominate. That?s nice-sounding. But who defines ?truth?? What if you believe in a different  ?truth??

Duncan?s view is not new. It was the hallmark of the former Soviet Union. Those who did not accept Stalin-decreed ?truth? were murdered or shipped to labour camps. The same hobbling of free, dispassionate journalism was attempted during the 1980s by developing countries in what they ominously termed the ?new world information order?. The West also rejected & beat that one back. But, in South Africa in 2014, it?s what a professor of journalism preaches.

My anxiety about the media was reinforced by the Institute for Advanced Journalism in Johannesburg: it ?postponed? (that is, cancelled) a meeting for me to speak about my new book on Israel & apartheid. I was told that this was because emotions were ?running so high? over Gaza.

But if journalists cannot meet to discuss contentious issues, who can? I have spent more than 55 years of my life as a journalist; for me, the institute?s ?verkrampte? (frightened attitude) was tantamount to spelling the end of inquiry. I replied: What sort of journalism are you teaching your students? No answer came.

Then it was Steven Friedman, ?an academic & political commentator?, in the Mail & Guardian. He said: ?There weren?t any rockets being fired before Israel invaded Gaza. How many people in Israeli cities have actually been under threat? Zero.? He had missed reports about the nonstop rain of rockets that has terrorised Israel: about 450 from January 1 to June 30.   He went further: ?The Israeli government blows sirens & forces people into bomb shelters, so that they have a real sense of terror & feeling besieged.? This was disconnected from reality ? nutcase stuff. It was also insulting to Hamas. What did Friedman think was in its thousands of thousands of 75kg to 154kg warheads? Confetti?

In the Cape Argus, Kieran Legg interviewed a Palestinian diplomat, Tamer Almassri, about Gaza. Under a gory headline, ?Playing in our blood?, he managed to avoid any reference to Hamas missiles; it was as if Israel was cruelly attacking Gaza for no reason.  He also left unquestioned Almassri?s statement that ?we will not let 66 years of bloodshed come to nothing ? We will not give up until we have our historical land again.? Legg

presumably did not realise Almassri was harking back to 1948 & calling for Israel?s destruction.

Then, in Business Day, there was Allister Sparks, a veteran commentator who should know that a two-state solution has been the Israeli government?s policy, in word if not always in deed, for the past three years. But, according to Sparks: ?Netanyahu has never recognised the right of a Palestinian state to exist.?

Sparks is eager to sanitise Hamas, undemocratic & hate-filled though it is. He tries to link Margaret Thatcher?s rejection of the ANC as a terrorist organisation to Israel?s labelling of Hamas as terrorist.  But he fails to tell his readers that the Thatcher slur was factually inaccurate, whereas Hamas is a genuine, thoroughly murderous terrorist organisation ? in the judgment not only of Israel & the United States but also the European Union, Canada & Japan.

He also needs to ask Saudi Arabia & other Arab states about their fear of Hamas?s Islamist extremism.

In complaining that the Pentagon gave Israel a further $225-million in military aid, he did not mention that this was chiefly for self-defence ? for ?Iron Dome?, the anti-missile system developed by Israeli scientists with US taxpayer money. Each battery costs $50-million & each Hamas rocket is brought down at a cost of $50 000.

Nor did he display much understanding of labyrinthine Middle East politics ? of the fact that, although only Turkey & Qatar, & possibly Iran, are Hamas?s friends, no other states in the region will speak to them. So Egypt landed up as the mediator, despite Sparks?s denial that it can do the job.

I blinked, again, at an emotional indictment of Israel in the New Age. Laeeka Edries, ?a second-year student at the Durban University of Technology?, wrote about the deaths of Gazan children in a piece filled with wild inaccuracies. Is Edries qualified to write an ?analysis? of a life-and-death struggle thousands of kilometres away?

So it went on. Day after day I read reports heavy with factual errors or loaded against Israel ? not only the repeated omission of reference to the Hamas missiles & tunnels but also the consistent criticisms of Israel?s blockade of Gaza.

I happen to be among the many Israelis who believe the siege should end, but what upset me about the South African reporting was the scant mention of the fact that Egypt has also been laying siege to Hamas & in some ways is even tougher than Israel: it left hundreds of Palestinians stranded for days in no-man?s-land, refusing to allow them to enter either Egypt or Gaza; it destroyed more than 1300 tunnels used for taking anything from goats to medical supplies & missiles into Gaza.

I was surprised by the lack of questioning by journalists. Why didn?t anyone challenge Friedman about his obvious nonsense? Why is he given a platform? Why didn?t anyone question Cosatu?s spokesperson Patrick Craven when he said in the Times: ?We?re going to put pressure on businesses to prevent anything that comes from Israel being sold in this country??

Why wasn?t he asked: Does that mean you will throw away your cell-phones & computers,

because they wouldn?t exist without Israeli technology & components? Will you check whether you & your millions of members are taking lower-cost drugs made by Israel?s Teva, the world?s biggest generic drugmaker? Meanwhile, because of Cosatu, the health ministry has put on hold the purchase of the Israeli-made PrePex device for male circumcisions, denying its mass use to combat Aids.

Nor are the faults only South African. Kim Sengupta of the London Independent, in a full-page

article carried in the Star, managed only a glancing reference to missiles fired at Israel. & he perpetuated a glaring failure in media reporting from Gaza: the unquestioning acceptance of the casualty figures issued by Hamas & local UN officials. They say two-thirds of casualties were civilians, many of them women & children. But that doesn?t make sense. What about Hamas fighters who in the later stages were engaged in almost hand-to-hand combat with Israeli soldiers? Did any newspaper carry a picture of a Hamas fighter, dead or alive?

Sengupta?s cop-out was this: ?My colleagues & I were not in a position to analyse the exact make-up of the maimed & the dead with any degree of certainty. It was not possible amid the maelstrom of bombs & missiles [and] buildings crumbling around us.?

Did any editor in South Africa ask him: Then why do you blindly report the casualty figures fed to you & write so emotionally about them? Did anyone respond to accusations by journalists after they left Gaza of intimidation by Hamas if they reported anything except dead children & destroyed buildings?

Of course, not all journalism on Israel is poor. South Africa has thinking journalists who are true to their calling, who question & assess the facts. But three weeks of a mass of low quality, unthinking reports left me alarmed about the country?s media. No wonder there is so much anger against Israel.

Supporting Terror: EU States Buying Islamic State Oil   By Ari Yashar  First Publish: 9/7/2014,

EU Ambassador to Iraq reveals EU states purchasing oil from jihadist terror group, refuses to divulge names of states.

EU states helping to fund ISIS?  Reuters

The Ambassador for the European Union (EU) in Iraq, Jana Hybaskova, admitted last week that several EU member states have bought oil from the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorist organization that has been brutally conquering large portions of Iraq & Syria.

Hybaskova made the revelation at the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee, but refused to divulge the names of the countries despite being asked numerous times, reports the Turkish Daily Sabah.

In addition to its implementation of brutal Islamic law, including numerous public executions, IS in late June captured Iraq?s largest oil refinery factory, days later in early July capturing the largest oil field in Syria, & another Syrian oil field a few days after that.

The US is leading a western effort to aid Iraqi government & Kurdish forces in rolling back IS?s gains ? with some effect ? but the various seizures of infrastructure & resources have led IS to be assessed as the ?world?s richest terrorist organization,? & with EU states aiding it by buying IS oil, that economic power fueling the jihadist group seems only likely to grow further.

Regarding IS?s ability to export its captured oil stores, Turkish Minister of Energy & Natural Sources Taner Yildiz rejected claims his state was importing IS oil on July 31, shortly after the UN threatened sanctions on states purchasing or transporting IS oil.

According to security estimates IS has hundreds of foreign jihadists in its ranks, including many from Western nations. The terror group has been actively recruiting from the West, through such means as flashy propaganda videos in German & English ? a phenomenon that has western government nervous over the possibility that recruits could return home to carry out terrorist attacks.

Professor Yoseph Shaaltiel, Protalix Executive VP Research & Development told ITV Channel 2 News that his company can immediately begin producing the experimental anti-Ebola ZMapp drug, the only drug that has proven to be an effective Ebola cure.  Dr. Kent Brantly, the American doctor who contracted the disease while treating Ebola patients in Liberia made a rapid recovery after being given the drug.

Unfortunately the drug is still in an experimental stage, & experiments done after Dr. Brantly was treated exhausted supplies.

The manufacturer, Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc., a small San Diego based biotech company requires several months before they can manufacture a new batch of the drug.

Protalix, located in the northern Israeli town of Karmiel has developed biological agents effective in combatting Gaucher disease & Fabryr disease.  The company?s technology can also be used to rapidly produce a broad range of antibodies & anti-viral agents, including the active ingredients in ZMapp.

At the moment it is unclear whether there is any other company in the world capable of rapidly producing large amounts of the biological materials ZMapp requires.

However Protalix would have to reach an agreement with Mapp before it could commence production of the ZMapp formula. It is unknown whether there have been any talk between the companies regarding this issue.

US-Iranian military, intelligence cooperation in war on ISIS reaps first successes in Syria & Iraq

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report September 5, 2014, 10:15 AM (IDT)

isis-map

At least 18 foreign ISIS fighters including Americans & Europeans were killed Thursday, Sept. 4, in a Syrian air raid of the Al Qaeda-ISIS? northern Syrian headquarters in the Gharbiya district of Raqqa. The raid caught a number of high Al Qaeda commanders & a large group of foreign adherents assembled at the facility.

A second group of high ISIS officers were killed or injured in another Syrian air raid over their base in Abu Kamal near the Iraqi border.   DEBKAfile?s military & intelligence sources report that top men of the Islamist terrorist group were holding meetings at both places Thursday to coordinate IS strike plans in Syria & Iraq.  For Syria, these plans center on the Deir a-Zor & Al Qaim areas, while in Iraq, they focus on targets in the east & center of the country.

The twin Syrian air offensive coincided with the opening of the two-day NATO Summit outside the Welsh town of Newport .

The information about the two Al Qaeda meetings at Raqqa & Abu Kamal could have come from only two sources: US surveillance satellites & aircraft or Iranian agents embedded at strategic points across Syria.

Syria does not have the necessary intelligence capabilities for digging out this kind of information. Nor does its air force normally exhibit the surgical precision displayed in the two strikes on Al Qaeda bases.

It is therefore more than likely that they owed their success to the widening military & intelligence cooperation between the United State & Iran in Iraq & Syria.

President Barack Obama will have taken his seat at the NATO summit to discuss ways of fighting ISIS after word of the successful Syrian strikes was already in his pocket. While they must be credited to top-quality US aerial surveillance over Syria & Iraq, they were undoubtedly made possible by the Obama administration?s deepening military & intelligence ties with Iran.

Many of the allies present at Newport will not welcome these tidings ? Britain, Germany & Australia, in particular. They deeply resent being displaced as America?s senior strategic partners by the Revolutionary Republic of Iran, after their long partnership with the US in fighting terror in Afghanistan & Iraq.

But they will find it hard to argue with success.

On Aug. 31, our military sources reveal, US & Iranian special forces fighting together, broke the 100-day IS siege of the eastern Iraqi town of Amerli, 100 km from the Iranian border, to score a major victory in their first joint military ground action.

Then, Wednesday, Sept. 3, US jets struck an IS base in the northern Iraqi town of Tal Afar, killing its commander, Abu Hajar Al-Sufi, & two lieutenants of the IS chief Abu Baker Al-Baghdadi.                While President Obama has denied having a strategy for fighting ISIS, a working mechanism appears to have been put in place to support a trilateral military offensive against al Qaeda?s Islamist State. The successful attacks in the last 24 hours were apparently made possible by this mechanism: Iranian intelligence collected US surveillance data from the Americans & passed it on to Syria for action.

DAILY ALERT

Syria May Have Hidden Chemical Arms, U.S. Says ? Rick Gladstone Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the UN, expressed concern on Thursday that Syria?s government might be harboring undeclared chemical weapons, hidden from the international operation to purge them over the past year, & that Islamist militant extremists in that country could seize control of them. ?I want to stress that much more work still needs to be done on Syria?s chemical weapons program,? Power said.     Sigrid Kaag, the UN official coordinating the Syrian chemical weapons disarmament effort, said Syria had yet to address ?some discrepancies or questions? about whether it had accounted for all of the chemical weapons in its arsenal. She also said Syria had yet to destroy seven hangars & five tunnels used for mixing & storing the weapons ? as required under the chemical weapons treaty that Syria has signed. (New York Times)

From:  Arlene Kushner  Akushner18@gmail.com  September 5, 2014      ?Briefs?

Here I want simply to share information & analyses provided by others that will enlighten you ? and, in one case, even entertain you.

The subject at hand, first, is the issue of the land in Gush Etzion that has been declared state land ? in the process generating a horrified response heard round the world.

Daniel Greenfield, writing in his typically incisive manner as Sultan Knish, addresses this issue with tongue-in-cheek.

Daniel Greenfield  Credit: Frontpage

It?s a piece worth reading & sharing:

?There are few weapons as deadly as the Israeli house. When its brick & mortar are combined together, the house, whether it is one of those modest one story hilltop affairs or a five floor apartment building complete with hot & cold running water, becomes far more dangerous than anything green & glowing that comes out of the Iranian centrifuges?

?Forget the cluster bomb & the mine, the poison gas shell & even tailored viruses. Iran can keep its nuclear bombs. They don?t impress anyone in Europe or in Washington. Genocide is a minor matter when in the presence of the fearsome weapon of terror that is an Israeli family of four moving into a new apartment.?

http://sultanknish.blogspot.co.il/2014/09/the-deadly-israeli-house-strikes-again.html

Ari Briggs of Regavim, observing the paucity of solid information regarding this issue, has put together material- including a map ? that is exceedingly valuable for anyone seeking to understand what is going on.

From that material (italics in the original, bold added):

[] The area of the land is 1.46 square miles (990 acres, 380 Hectares, 3799 dunams)

[] Nobody lives on this land, neither Palestinian Arabs nor Israelis.

[] This land has been classed as public land since before 1948.

[] In 1967 all public lands including this piece in the West Bank came under Israeli control.  As an extra precaution, to ensure the protection of private property rights, the authorities put in place an additional process to double & triple check that no private land was mistakenly included. This process of investigation & final declaration is what the government announced recently. The declaration does not change the status of the land.

[] The land is situated in the Etzion bloc which is acknowledged & widely accepted to be included on the Israeli side of a future land swap in any negotiated peace agreement.

[] The land straddles the 1949 Armistice lines & is in Area C under full Israeli administration & security control based on 1993 Oslo Accords.

[] Pre-1948 there were Jewish communities in the Etzion bloc that were destroyed by the Jordanian Arab Legion & Egyptian Army in Israel?s Independence War.

[] As a general rule in Western countries there is either public land or private land. Thus the concept of ownerless land is not familiar. As a rule a sovereign power owns all land that is not privately owned. This is based on Ottoman land law & British land law & is also enshrined in Israeli land law. The process of final declaration as proscribed by the authorities is in place as an extra protection of private property rights. As such in the case where the sovereign power wants to advance building plans in an area where the land registry record is not complete it has to do an in-depth survey of the land by law, to ensure 1000% that the land is not privately owned.

After decades of due process the land was surveyed & determined to not be privately owned, yet even so a 45 day window of appeal is available by law.

Lastly, on the subject, I invite you to see this fine article by international lawyer (and member of the Legal Grounds Legal Advisory Board) Eugene Kontorovich (emphasis added):

?Israel?s declaration of certain open, uncultivated areas near the 1949 Armistice Line as ?state land? has been widely mischaracterized as an ?appropriation? of private Palestinian land, & a promotion of settlement activity. It is neither.

?A determination that land is ?state land? is a factual, administrative finding that does not change the ownership of land. In the West Bank?like in the American West?massive amounts of land have no private owners. There is nothing unusual about this?

?An ?appropriation? involves taking something that is someone?s. A designation of land as ?state land? requires a determination, based on extensive investigation, that it does not have a private owner. The determination can be challenged administratively & judicially, as Palestinian claimants often do, & sometimes prevail.

?In other words, nothing has been taken from anyone, or given to anyone. Thus a ?state land? determination does not create any new facts or change ownership.

?Moreover, designating an area state land does not mean that a Jewish community can be built on it?Authorizing a new residential community would require a vast number of additional administrative & political permissions?

?The hysteria over this announcement illustrates several points. First, it reflects how detached discussions of ?illegal settlements? are from international law?? http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2014/09/04/defining-settlements-down-the-false-appropriation-hysteria/

Switching gears now to what went on in Gaza, I want to provide this important information ?Israel vindicated by UN damage assessment in Gaza.? It is so very different from the impression lent by most media reports & I advise saving this for reference (emphasis added):

?An analysis of the damage assessment data collected ? on the Gaza War ? by the UN Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (which has never been biased in Israel?s favor), confirms that Israel attacked Hamas targets in a restrained manner.  ?Israel bombed areas which harbored Hamas missile launching grounds & facilities, command posts, terrorists homes & hideouts, operational bases, weapon inventory & tunnels.   ?Most of the damage concentrated in very limited areas of 25 square meters of less, while most of Gaza was not damaged at all or in a very limited manner.  Less than 5% of Gaza was hit by The Israel Defense Forces. ?The most populated areas of Gaza City, Jabaliya, Khan Yunes, Rafah & Deir el-Balah were disproportionally-undamaged: damaged in a very limited way or not damaged at all.

?The areas highlighted by the UN damage assessment report are compatible with the Israel Defense Forces briefings on the location of Hamas facilities, especially in the Shuja?iya area, which was the arena of the most intense battles.

?While Hamas concentrated its terror facilities?in densely populated urban areas in Gaza, the vast majority of these urban areas were undamaged.?  http://send.hadavars.com/index.php?action=message&l=2090&c=30525&m=28855&s=a6cb16d3b3816334978bf4ecf04fe6e1     I?ve been writing about standing strong for Israel.  Here is information that provides clarity & enables you to stand up for Israel in letters to the editor, talkbacks & the like.

In closing, some good news:  Israel & Jordan have signed a $15 billion natural gas deal.  This benefits Israel economically & creates ties of Jordan to Israel that can only serve us well:  http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/184721#.VAmp5pvlrIV
