Earlier generations heard stories from grandparents about the Great Depression, World War II or the assassination of John F. Kennedy. They knew that difficult things happen and we get through it together.

Many people in the workforce today have experienced a relatively stable economy and few disruptions. It is important that leaders provide perspective. Empathy and reassurance is very valuable during difficult times. The road ahead may be foggy. Over time, the road may turn a different direction than was expected. Most of the time the unexpected turn is better than what was planned.

If you have experienced changes that turned out well for you, it is great to share that with your team. You can also borrow stories from other people who have had excellent outcomes. Personally, over three decades ago, I lost my job and started Change Masters, which has been a wonderful opportunity to live a purpose-filled life. At the time of transition is was scary. Looking back, it was a wonderful turning point that I wouldn’t trade for anything else.
