The most recent report from IR Insight (Investor Relations Insight), confirms Firestorm's own data: The latest data shows only two thirds of companies have formal crisis planning in place. Moreover, only half of those with a plan conduct crisis simulation and communication exercises.
In this latest global survey of IR professionals, respondents were asked to rank a number of issues by their importance to how investors evaluate investor relations. Communication during specific events, such as crisis management score the second highest (8.6 out of 10). Only the quality of information about a company's financial performance and strategy score higher. Yet 53% said their department did not take part in crisis simulations and another 7% didn't know either way.
While crisis management involves much more than communication, failed communication and poorly trained employees can easily over-shadow great operational intervention.
