Do you and your employees know what to do if the company vehicle gets into an accident?

It’s something bosses dread every time their employees step into the company vehicle. They whisper to themselves, “please don’t get into an accident.” After a few hours, they get a phone call from their employee. They stare at their screen and finally answer the phone, their heart drops as they hear the magic words: “Hey boss, there’s been an accident.” They will have comfort knowing their employees know exactly what to do when it comes to company car accidents. Can you say the same of your employees, should they find themselves in a similar situation? By following this commercial auto insurance accident checklist, your business will have done everything it can.

  1. Make sure there are no serious injuries

Make sure that you, your passengers, and others involved are OK. If anyone is injured, call 911 or get some help. If no one is injured, keep a level head and assess the situation.

  1. Make sure you’re always safe

Make sure that other vehicles can see you when you are stopped. Turn on your blinkers, and alert all other vehicles. If at all possible, move it out of traffic’s way. Your mishap shouldn’t affect the thousands of cars behind you.

  1. Exchange Information

Now, exchange information with other people involved in the accident. Be sure to write down basic contact information for everyone involved, including:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • License plate number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Insurance company and policy number
  1. Call the Insurance Company

Call your insurance company as soon as possible, and report exactly what happened and answer any questions they will have for you as truthfully as possible.

5. Notify the Police

If necessary or if there are any injuries, make sure to notify the police.

Accidents are sometimes unavoidable and costly, especially for a business. You can be the best driver in the world, and still succumb to another driver’s inability to keep their eyes on the road.
