If the automated cashier machines in big box stores and elsewhere were actually easy to use, I’d prefer them. The airline kiosks work well, as does automated ordering online. The automated cashiers simply aren’t designed well, and for all the heat and light about AI, it’s originated by humans somewhere up the line who never sufficiently tested them.
Who designs the hotel lighting that is totally insufficient? They’ve never tried themselves to put on makeup or to shave? Who designs the cars and SUVs where you hit your knee every time you get in? They’ve never tried to enter what they designed? And forget about any designer taking a five-hour trip in a coach seat on any airline.
I had to call the front desk once in a Four Seasons hotel to ask how the hell the shower worked. Of course, it could be that I’m not that bright, and it’s me and not them. The evidence, however, would suggest….
