Financial Literacy Month

Many of the money mistakes adults make are directly related to habits and beliefs created in early childhood. Children begin learning about money at home from the influential people in their lives right from the time they are toddlers. Modelling and learning from observation are two of the most powerful methods of learning in all young children. This is exactly why Nancy Phillips, mother of two and founder of DollarSmartKids Enterprises Inc., has created an audio program to help parents teach their children the most important financial life skills.

Several years ago Phillips set out to learn exactly what to teach her young children about financial and life success skills relative to our rapidly changing world. She couldn't find what she was looking for. That led to a period of extensive research to find the international "best practices" that she could boil down and share in a fun way with her own children. The research and journey ultimately resulted in a children's financial story books series, the Zela Wela Kids.

Now Phillips has created an audio program to share the key financial skills with parents in an easy to use, effective way. The information addresses the pre-school years right through and including the teen years. Phillips says "parents need to be aware of these universal skills and when to teach them so their children have the opportunity to get hands-on practice and build their experience, along with their knowledge, as they mature and take on more responsibility. It's just like a sport; everyone needs practice to master a skill, it doesn't happen with one or two conversations."

The audio program comes with a workbook illustrating all the key building blocks or "money milestones" in the Zela Wela Kids Financial House©. Other topics addressed in the program include: damaging mistakes for parents to avoid when teaching money skills, the Mom Effect, answers to common questions regarding allowances, habits of the wealthy and how to have the credit card "talk" with teens. The good news is the key lessons are made up of basic skills that families can practice during daily life; there is no need for parents to worry about being math geniuses or investment experts. "We have needed a clear roadmap to teach these essential skills to our kids for a long time now and this program was created to give busy moms and dads the specific information they need in a simple to use framework. This is critically important as it directly impacts our children's future well-being."

The audio program How to Teach Your Children the Most Critical Financial Life Skills is now available globally in physical and downloadable formats at http://www.zelawelakids.com/store/
