Seriously searching singles are looking for love this fall! Online dating is currently very active this time of year, and most of those seeking life partners would love to meet someone before the end of the year holidays. So how do you meet people online these days?

This is a question I’m often asked, and the answer is actually multi-faceted. To unpack the answer that will work best for you, let’s look at the ways I’ve observed most of my clients meet people online over the last 20 years!

1. Traditional Dating Sites

Hands down, this has been the most consistent way to meet people online. We’re talking about the bigger sites like Match and eHarmony.

You can also have luck meeting people of the same religion or ethnicity on sites like ChristianMingle, Catholic Match, JDate, Shadi, or BlackPeopleMeet. Some sites cater to specific age ranges or shared interests.

The reason most of my clients have met on a traditional online dating site is because these sites enable you to write quite a lot about yourself. So, you can get a good sense of a person from their profiles on these sites.

2. Dating Apps

These are online dating tools that are primarily phone-based. Over the last 10 years, dating apps have been popular for the 40 and under crowd. However, singles in their 50s and even their 60s have started to embrace dating apps to meet people online.

These apps are easy to set up and to get going. The information provided by the members is not as extensive as a traditional dating site, however, you’ll find out the basics at least.

A 50-something single-parent client shared with me that she met her partner on Bumble. Other popular apps are Hinge, Coffee Meets Bagel, and Tindr.

Some of my clients meet people online through affinity groups on a social media platform.

One of my clients just met someone through a single parents Facebook group. Anywhere you hang out, you can learn about a person, check out their personal page (and perhaps a business page), and start engaging with them. And if you have friends in common that can go a long way toward giving you peace of mind.

Since the pandemic, many Meetup groups have been holding online social gatherings and workshops. It’s a great way to meet people from the comfort of your home and get a good sense of a particular person. Then after the event, you can message that person through Meetup to reach out and build a connection. Per protocol, it’s okay to do so if you were at an event together and you’re following up. However, keep in mind that reaching out to people randomly that you’ve never seen before online is not acceptable.

5. Matchmaking sites

There are traditional matchmakers, and they utilize their sites as a way to gather leads online and then take a more hands-on approach to matching people. And there are dating sites that utilize real people, or matchmakers, to help others meet people online.

Traditional matchmaking is for those who have the means to pay a matchmaker. However, you can get matchmaking services from a site that runs like a membership site. The League is one of those membership sites. Keep in mind that matchmaking options can be very costly.

In my 20 years of dating coaching, I’ve only had a handful of clients who have met their life partners through a matchmaking site or a personal matchmaker. Certain people are ideal for this kind of service.

If you think you’re one of them, just be sure to read the fine print of the contract before you sign on the dotted line!  The Motivated to Marry Dating Secrets Coaching program has a handout so you know what questions to ask if you’re considering hiring a matchmaker. This will save you thousands of dollars and keep you from great disappointment.

6. Online speed dating

The in-person speed dating concept was brought online during the Pandemic.  And given the convenience, it remains a fast and fun way to meet people online today.

In fact, many speed dating companies are now offering both online and in-person speed dating events.

In speed dating, both people have to agree to connect to get the follow-up information for one another. I’ve only had one client successfully couple from a speed dating event in the 20 years I’ve been coaching.

Finding a partner with speed dating depends on first impressions and the ability to create a connection within 4 to 6 minutes!

Here you go! I hope I sparked some ideas for you to try to meet people online who are also looking for a serious relationship.

Each of these ways takes a certain strategy, an inner awareness about what you want from life and also, who would be a good partner for you based upon your personality, values, and desires. For each of these methods to meet people online, there’s a way to communicate to create a greater connection that can lead to meeting in real life.  Isn’t that the true goal of meeting people online?

I can help you authentically put yourself out there, so you’ll attract the right person to you. Just like I’ve helped hundreds of successfully coupled clients do so, I can show you how.
