It’s Ash Wednesday – the beginning of Lent, the 40 days observed by Christians in preparation for Easter. A lot of us will be giving up something for Lent – coffee, chocolate, sugar, maybe even Facebook. The sacrifice we make during Lent is supposed to help us remember what God sacrificed for us. So what if instead we gave up anger or judgement or political rants or ugly criticism or self hatred or something else that takes us away from the character of Christ? And what if, instead of giving up something like meat or sweets or social media, we were to add something like intentional acts of kindness, service to others, or a spiritual discipline like meditation, prayer or journaling? What can you do in the next 40 days that will bring your heart and mind closer to the mind of Christ?
