1,000,000 Youth Campaign heads to NASA for TEDx

The UPstander Omekongo
 
Omekongo "The UPstander" Dibinga will return for the third time in 2 years to perform at a NASA TED event. The TEDx Youth Day @ NASA takes place on Nov. 19, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Virginia Air & Space Center (VASC) in downtown Hampton.

According to NASA, TEDxYouth@NASA is one of more than "100 TEDx events happening all around the world coinciding with Universal Children's Day, from Nov. 19 - 21. These events are designed to empower and inspire young people." TEDxYouth@NASA is hosted by NASA's Langley Research Center, the VASC and the National Institute of Aerospace.

The theme this year is "Get Connected" and Omekongo will be debuting a new rap by that same title. The goal of this year's event is to encourage teens to become more involved in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs. More than 300 students will be in attendance. and the event will be streamed over the Internet from 5 - 8 p.m. at

There will also be several other presenters including Rita J. King, Executive VP for Business Development at Science House, the creator of the Imagination Age, and Futurist at the National Institute of Aerospace; Bonnie St. John, the first African-American to win Olympic medals in ski racing; Joey and Jeff Anderson, who use cooking oil waste from restaurants as biodiesel; and students from The Muse Writers Center in Norfolk, Va.

Omekongo is the UPstander. He is an award-winning artist who uses his skills as a speaker, poet, and musician to inspire positive change across the globe. His work has appeared on radio and television from CNN to the BBC in over 150 countries. For more information, please visit
