Over the course of the past decade MicroTech and West Point’s Mission and Installation Contracting Command have partnered on a host of projects designed to build a strong IT infrastructure and a better learning environment for our nation’s future leaders at West Point.

In 2013 MicroTech competed for and won the Network Wireless Lifecycle Deployment project at West Point. The scope of this project was an imposing one: to provide wireless infrastructure (i.e., WiFi) installations and upgrades to the entire West Point campus – encompassing over 400 facilities and associated outdoor areas. MicroTech successfully completed this large and complex effort earlier this year.

And, West Point has been quick to embrace and employ their new wireless capability in new and transforming ways. One of the most recent is detailed in the article “The Long (Digital) Gray Line: West Point Breaks New Ground in Education Technology” in the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) publication ARMY Magazine. This article describes West Point’s program to transform its History of the Military Art course into an interactive digital curriculum provided on wirelessly-connected iPad mobile tablets. The article goes further to discuss how this program holds the keys to dramatic improvements in Army learning by delivering content and curricula in the way that the millennial generation consumes information – digitally and on-demand. Ultimately, this program’s success, and future programs as well, is directly attributed to the content and curriculum adaptation, the mobile interactive digital education application, and the wireless delivery infrastructure.

“MicroTech is honored to work hand in hand with USMA to bring the Army and other Academies of higher learning into the digital age.” Said Tony Jimenez, MicroTech President & CEO. “The establishment of a academy-wide wireless infrastructure and the digital transformation of the curriculum is instrumental in turning West Point into a premier digital institute of higher education where the Cadets are now learning with laptops and iPads in lieu of text books and notepads. And, with WiFi hot spots located throughout the campus, they can now securely study anywhere and at any time they desire, including barracks, classrooms, the dock, baseball field, Michie Stadium, parade grounds, and Camp Buckner.”
