Here are two simple ways to improve your confidence as a communicator.
There are two words that all leaders should be aware of and think about – and they both start with c. Communication and Confidence. When you have more of the later you will do the former more effectively. And as you communicate better your confidence rises – a true upward spiral! So what are some ways to start that upward spiral? Let me give you a couple of ideas: Be better prepared. In anything in life when we are better prepared we build our confidence. In this case preparation can include: • The message • Preparing for the audience • Considering options and questions you might be asked • Thinking about the environment where you will be communicating • Anything that isn’t about “winging it” •
Act confident and you will be more confident (and just as importantly be seen as more confident). It is true. The action creates the belief. “The fake it til you make idea” is the point –but that cliché often ignores the preparation part we just discussed. • Lift your posture • Smile • Breathe deeply
