How to Find Publishers and Agents and Get Published

Normally a new writer is ecstatic to sell even one book to a traditional publisher, at a time when the publishing industry has retrenched and mainstream publishers are focused on publishing books with celebrity and high-profile authors, while millions of writers are publishing their own books with limited sales.

But amazingly, author Gini Graham Scott has managed to sell not one but SEVEN books to different publishers, and two others are under consideration with announcements coming soon.

She has previously published over 50 books with major publishers and most recently sold the following six books - American Justice written with a client, The New Middle Ages, Memory Power, The Lies of a Sociopath, Get What You Want in Life, and Our Changing World: How New Developments in Science, Technology, Business, and Society Are Changing Your Life.  The final titles, publishers, and dates of publication, starting in June 2014, will be announced soon

How did she do it?  Through an email query to selected publishers in setting up and testing out databases for her own company, The Publishing Connection (www.thepublishingconnection.com), where she is the Creative Director.  The company is a successor to Publishers and Agents, a company she founded over 11 years ago at a time when pitching books and scripts by email queries was a novelty. Now for almost all companies, email queries are the way to go, and the company helps writers connect with thousands of publishers and agents, including foreign agents who handle rights for published and unpublished works.  Plus the service helps writers find book sales reps, and it helps screenplay writers contact film producers, production company, agents, managers, and distributors.

The service works by connecting clients using their own email with a targeted group of book editors, literary agents, foreign agents, book reps, and those in the film industry.  The success of The Publishing Connection is reflected in numerous testimonials on the website, and during a six-week prelaunch beta period, half of about two-dozen clients who used the service found agents or publishers – while Gini found her six publishers.

To help other writers achieve success with their own queries, Gini began a series of weekly blogs and has turned them into a book about how to find publishers and agents and get published – How to Find Publishers and Agents and Get Published http://www.amazon.com/How-Find-Publishers-Agents-Published/dp/1499522134/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400218201&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+find+publishers+and+agents+-+scott – dealing with all phases of the writing, pitching, publishing, and promotion process -- from writing the manuscript to writing an effective letter and proposal to deciding the best agent and publisher to work with. The chapters in the book come from the blogs on how writers can be successful based on the questions they frequently asked.  Among these blogs, which are featured on the website, are the first seven which deal with these topics:

      - Should you find a publisher or self-publish?

      - Turning your blogs into a book

      - Should you find a publisher or an agent or both?

      - How to turn your book into a blog

      - How to use crowdfunding for books or films

      - What to say in a query letter

      - How to get paid when publishers try not to pay you

, besides all of the books, Gini has her first feature film in production in L.A. and Las Vegas. – The Suicide Party: Project O about a once successful salesman about to lose everything who decides to hold a suicide party with the help of friends.  If he raises enough to save his house and get back on his feet, he'll live; if not, he'll end it all, which triggers a media frenzy and a series of unexpected events.  A campaign to supplement the $25,000 raised for the film's $35,000 budget is at www.gofundme.com/suicide-party, and the film has been featured in a series of film festivals including the Oakland Film Festival and the NorCal Film Festival. And how did Gini find her lead actors and directors and promote the crowdfunding campaign?  Why with the help of a mailing from The Publishing Connection, of course.
