Los Angeles, CA - February 1, 2013: Consumer interest in long term care insurance protection grew significantly compared with a year ago according to a report issued today by the director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance.

"Consumer interest in learning more about long term health care options is once again growing," explains Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, the national trade group. We track the number of consumer website visits on a monthly basis and January 2013 recorded an 18.3 percent increase over the prior month."

According to the Association data website traffic to the organization's website in January was more than double compared to the same time period in the prior year. "We've seen a 111.4 percent increase compared to January 2011, a sign that consumers are feeling in a better position financially."

The Association's website attracts as many as 70,000 unique visitors on a monthly basis. "Most tend to be consumers between the ages of 40 and 75 who are looking to learn more about long term care planning and the options available," Slome adds. Some eight million Americans currently own some form of long term care insurance according to AALTCI with several hundred thousand new policies sold annually.

Leading insurers offering this protection are Genworth, John Hancock, Mutual of Omaha and Transamerica. "Our focus in 2013 will continue to focus on educating people about the risk one faces as a result of living a long life and the planning options available," Slome concludes. "We like to say that long term care is a universal risk all Americans need to think about but long term care insurance is not the universal solution for all." He acknowledged that individuals must health qualify for private insurance coverage and should be expected to pay $100 or more monthly depending on their age and the level of protection selected.
