Gun Rights Activists Should Meet Congressmen during Summer Recess
Washington , DC
Tuesday, August 16, 2011

"Firearm rights activists throughout the United States should use the congressional recess to meet with their U.S. Representative and both of their U.S. Senators and let the officials know in courteous but firm conversation how they stand on the gun rights for life issues of the day," gun law expert John M. Snyder said here today.

Snyder is the Gun Dean, according to Human Events.

"The Senate and the House of Representatives are in recess until after Labor Day," noted Snyder. "During this period, when officials are at home, constituents can take the opportunity to meet with their elected officials on their home turf and explain to them why they think the way they do about significant Second Amendment issues.

"Guns save lives. The inability of law-aiding citizens to acquire, carry and use guns equates with the inability to stop mass murder, as was the case recently in Norway. The inability of law-abiding citizens to acquire, carry and use guns equates with the inability to stop mass rioting and looting, as is the case in major United Kingdom cities."

Snyder said that, "Guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens serve as a guarantee of the right to self-defense, of the right to defend life and property and, indeed, of the very right to life itself. Conversely, a denial of the right to keep and bear arms amounts to a denial of the right to life itself.

"One matter that gun rights activists may continually bring to the attention of congressional personnel is H.R. 822, the proposed National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011, by Reps. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) and Heath Shuler (D-NC). It would allow people with state issued permits to carry concealed firearms to carry guns throughout the country, similar to the way people with state issued driver's licenses may drive in other states. The bill has over 240 cosponsors and Sen. John Thune (R-SD) has indicated he intends soon to introduce a similar measure in the Senate. America needs national reciprocity and gun owners can continue to urge Senators and Representatives to bring it about it."
