In an article earlier this year Scientific American had an article on the possibility of new cells that develop in the brain targeted at new learning. Norma Roth, in her book
Aging Gracefully with Dignity, Integrity and Spunk Intact, Aging Defiantly explores not only the possibility not only of the capacity of brain to continue learning over a lifetime , but also to continue the use of the vast amount of knowledge stored within the brain power over a lifetime as well. The findings of Neuroscience to the field of continued brain function is rapidly changing the way aging is looked up in our society.
Her book focuses on the practical application of new scientific studies to the everyday life of those growing older whom she calls
The Silver Generation. A practical source called a "road map" to a full and productive life for those getting older, Ms. Roth explodes and debunks myths that surround those growing older and shows how to compensate for everyday changes while getting in touch with the richness of the mind that individuals have been collecting for a lifetime.
More and more seniors are actually not retiring staying in the work force, and not just for monetary reasons. It gives them a purpose in life, keeps them engaged in the process, give them much needed social interaction and, as reiterated above, stimulates the mind and "keeps them young." One example is Leo Pearlstein, King of Food PR and based in Los Angeles, who is still going strong at 90 years old. Or how about Irwin Zucker, long time book publicist, who just turned 83 as he logs in 60+ hours a week at his Hollywood office and, quite frankly, could "put ten-20 year olds to shame."
Exploring the Ùse It or Lose It phenomenon as well, Ms. Roth explains how to Treasure Hunt within the mind for the wealth that lies in each individual mind; how to get in touch with your Personal Retrieval System (PRS) which like a computer has stored almost all the vast knowledge, experiences and more over a lifetime, and how to access that knowledge for continued use to members of the Silver Generation for what is now predicted almost an entire lifetime.
Roth's book has been embraced by many reviewers. Irene Watson of Reader Views wrote, as it relates to this topic, about how "many of us, as we age, joke about memory loss and loss of train-of-thought. However, this isn't a joking matter—it really does happen and we often feel embarrassed or upset with ourselves. Roth acknowledges this in her book and gives us tips on what to do when it happens. It was a refreshing reminder to read her tips and I hope to remember to use them when the situation arises."
Norma Roth is advertising in Radio TV Interview Report and her ad text is reproduced below.
