NationalPressCouncil.com Announced as New Global Organization for Journalists and Media Professionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A new organization designed to support journalists, media professionals, commentators, editors, broadcasters, podcasters and digital publishers worldwide has been launched under the name NationalPressCouncil.com.

The organization is being developed as an international professional society dedicated to strengthening journalism, promoting press freedom, encouraging ethical reporting and building a stronger global media community.

Organizers say the National Press Council will provide professional development programs, networking opportunities, media resources and educational services designed to help journalists adapt to the rapidly changing communications landscape.

"The media profession is evolving at extraordinary speed," said Mitchell P. Davis. "Journalists today need not only strong reporting skills, but also visibility, credibility, digital publishing knowledge and professional community support. The National Press Council is being formed to help meet those needs"

Planned activities and services under consideration include:

• Professional development seminars and online workshops

• Press credentials and media recognition programs

• Networking events and conferences

• Newsroom, podcast and digital media resources

• Media ethics and standards discussions

• Press freedom advocacy initiatives

• Career support and educational opportunities for journalists and communicators worldwide

The organization also intends to serve as a gathering place where journalists, commentators, experts and public affairs professionals can exchange ideas and collaborate on emerging issues affecting media and public communication.

Founders say the National Press Council will welcome participants from traditional media, independent journalism, online publishing, broadcasting, podcasting, newsletters, streaming media and emerging communications platforms.

Additional information about membership opportunities, programs and launch activities is expected to be announced in the coming months.
