Another May spring weekend awaits! Don’t miss the annual Running of the Chihuahuas at The Wharf, Mount Vernon’s Revolutionary War Weekend, and of course, an evening with Georgetown’s own Kitty Kelley tonight.
Georgetown’s Own Kitty Kelley is in Conversation This Evening
The Citizens Association of Georgetown is hosting an interview with author Kitty Kelley from 6-8:30 p.m. this evening at the home of Alan and Nancy Taylor Bubes. The interview will be moderated by Carrington Tarr. Kelley is an internationally acclaimed author who has a monthly Kitty Kelley Book Club column in The Georgetowner. Don’t Miss the Running of the Chihuahuas
Dog lovers, you won’t want to miss this one. The annual Running of the Chihuahuas is back at The Wharf Saturday afternoon. Enjoy seeing over 100 chihuahuas competing on a 60-foot racetrack. There will be an all-breeds costume contest, drinks, a photo booth, and more. If you’re looking to add to your family, adoptable pups from Rural Dog Rescue will be attending as well. The D.C. Boat Show Returns for a Second Year
National Harbor is once again hosting the annual D.C. Boat Show May 3-5. The event kicks off the summer boating season and includes live music, vendor tents, and sail and power boats available for touring. More information on the show can be found here.
Huzzah! It’s Mount Vernon Revolutionary War Weekend
Go back in time for Mount Vernon’s Revolutionary War Weekend. Take the whole family to see military drills and visit with women and children camp followers. George Washington’s war tent will be available for guests to walk through as well. More information on the weekend can be found here.
Makers’ Market and Free Community Day at the National Museum of Women in the Arts
The first Sunday of the month is typically Community Day at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Also, this Sunday, a makers’ market will be set up in the Great Hall for vendors to display their wares made by women makers and businesses. NMWA educators will also be hosting free, drop-in art-making activities. More information on the event can be found here.
It’s Derby Weekend at The Wren
The Wren in Tysons is hosting a Kentucky Derby part Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. The watch party for the 150th race will include plenty of TVs to watch it live, and derby hats are encouraged. Guests can enjoy Maker’s Mark mint juleps and nosh on passed hors d’oeuvres too. More information on the party can be found here.
The Virginia Gold Cup Celebrates 99 Years Saturday
More horse racing and fancy hats will be celebrated this weekend, on a somewhat more local level. One of the country’s oldest and biggest steeplechase events celebrates 99 years this weekend. The Virginia Gold Cup will be held at Great Meadow in The Plains on Saturday. After a long hiatus, the Jack Russell Terrier Races will return as well. The 85th Annual Flower Mart will be at The National Cathedral this Weekend
The annual benefit for the gardens and grounds of the Washington National Cathedral is Friday and Saturday. The Flower Mart will include opportunities to buy plants and flowers, see an international floral display, explore market booths, and ride an antique carousel.
