You Need To Have A Modus Operandi And Fully Own It

Have you met Dan Kennedy?

For those of you who do not know Dan, you should.  Just go to Amazon.com and buy every book he’s authored and co-authored.

I’ve had the privilege to call Dan a friend and mentor for some time now. I’ve been following him since 2007.

During that time, I’ve attended almost every event that he’s hosted, almost every Super Conference and InfoSummit and purchased numerous products and courses that he’s developed.

Not to mention, I’ve spent time in his infamous basement where he hosts private clients and two years in his Titanium Coaching which required an investment of $22,000 per year.  I consider one of the best investments I ever made.

However, it’s no secret Dan’s main method of communication was by fax. If it wasn’t faxed, it was mailed, FedEx or a phone call from his assistant. 

He forced every client to communicate by fax. When I started Membership Multipliers, one of the first things I did was get a fax number so that I could keep the line of communication going.  He was the only one that ever used it. 

It was his modus operandi and he made no allowances. If you wanted to communicate with him via email, it wasn’t going to happen.

There’s no WiFi in Dan’s basement.  He couldn’t receive email if he wanted to. His home wasn’t even setup for it.

And it didn’t stop there. Dan didn’t have a cell phone (except in the glove compartment of his car and even then, it was a disposable phone for use in case of an emergency.) There was no texting Dan or leaving a message on his voicemail.

He owned his modus operandi and forced others to interact with him on his terms.

There’s much to be learned from that. I like to think of it as “being a slave to no one.” 

Build a business that you own, not a business that owns you.
