Yes& SVP Mike Smith elected to National Press Club Board of Governors

Mike Smith, senior vice president of public relations at Yes&, has been  elected to the Board of Governors of the National Press Club for a three-year term.  He is joining the board as a Communicator representative.

“Mike has been a longtime member of our Headliners Team,” said Lisa Nicole Matthews, outgoing NPC president and assignment manager, U.S. Video, of the Associated Press. “We welcome Mike Smith to the National Press Club’s Board of Governors. I know he will make a valuable contribution to the Club in this new role on the board.”

“My vision for the club is shared by many NPC members,” said Smith, “and will focus on finding ways for journalists and communicators to improve their professional interactions. I have been able to help build bridges between these professions throughout my career, including on the Communicators and Headliners Teams at the NPC.”

He is also a past winner of the coveted Vivian Award for Press Club service.

Smith has been a member of the National Press Club since 1993 and joined after the election of President Bill Clinton when he served on the Clinton Presidential Transition Team in the White House Office of Correspondence. He is a “Silver Owl” member, with 29 years of continuous membership. He has contributed to the Headliners Team in bringing top speakers and newsmakers to the National Press Club, as well as the more recently formed Communicators Team, working with executives to advance the PR profession.

Smith also serves as a Board of Directors member of the Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake Bay and was recently named chairman of the Advocacy Committee for 2022.

Smith earned both a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and he attended the Columbia University graduate school of journalism for a sequence in political reporting.
