Today, thousands of people use ghostwriters, including well-known celebrities, speakers, corporate leaders, government officials, and others. They don't have time to do their own writing. Normally, ghostwriters keep silent about their clients, since the key difference between a ghostwriter and a regular writer is the client can claim he or she wrote what the ghostwriter wrote. However, in the midst of the Presidential campaign, one ghostwriter, Tony Schwartz, came forward to describe how he really wrote The Art of the Deal for Donald Trump.
So how do writers find a good ghostwriter and what should they expect? Now a new book: HOW TO FIND AND WORK WITH A GOOD GHOSTWRITER by internationally known writer and ghostwriter Gini Graham Scott, Ph.D. describes what anyone who wants to find a ghostwriter should do and what to expect. https://www.amazon.com/How-Find-Work-Good-Ghostwriter/dp/1537598848
As the book describes, the client commonly provides the ghostwriter with some basic ideas about what to say—much like hiring a speechwriter, who is a form of ghostwriter. Then, the ghostwriter puts those ideas together into an organized piece of writing. The author reviews and approves it. And voila! He or she has a book, speech, or other writing in his or her name.
Now Scott goes behind the curtain to describe the steps involved in finding and collaborating with a good ghostwriter on blogs, articles, books, scripts, and other materials. It features these topics:
- Why work with a ghostwriter
- How to find a ghostwriter
- What you need to prepare for a book, script or blog
- How to work successfully with a ghostwriter
- Working out agreements and contracts
- And more
Scott brings to the book over 30 years' experience as a writer and over 15 as a ghostwriter. She has written over 50 books she has sold to major publishers, including Random House, Simon & Schuster, and AMACOM, and over 50 books she has published through her own company Changemakers Publishing. She has worked with dozens of clients on books, book proposals, blogs, and website copy, and has several ghostwriting projects that turned into co-authored books: American Justice? with Paul Brakke, At Death's Door with Sebastian Sepulveda, and Growing Up in Nazi Germany with Wolf Dettbarn. She has published a series of books for writers including Make More Money with Your Book, How to Find Publishers and Agents and Get Published, and How to Get Publishers and Deal with Clients, Co-Writing, Copyrights, and Contracts. She also speaks and does workshops for writers on how to write and promote their books and on how to find publishers, agents, and film producers.
