More women are resorting to violent acts of revenge.

According to infidelity expert Ruth Houston, more and more women are turning to violent forms of revenge in order to get even with their cheating mates.

Violent Revenge in the United States

As proof of the increase in women who are resorting to violent acts of revenge, Houston, founder of InfidelityAdvice.com and author of Is He Cheating on You? - 829 Telltale Signs, cites two recent examples below:

Four women -- a scorned wife, her sister, and two mistresses, lured a cheating husband to a motel room where they tied him up, and superglued his penis to his stomach, as punishment for his cheating ways.

Last month a betrayed wife in New York, poured boiling water on her cheating husband's crotch.

Violent Revenge by Women Around the World

"It's not just in the United States," says Houston who is frequently called on by the media to comment on popular infidelity issues in the news. "These female-perpetrated violent acts of revenge are happening all over the world."

To prove her point, Houston cites two international examples that recently made headline news:

In Kuwait, 41 women and children were killed and 52 others hospitalized when the groom's ex wife set fire to a wedding tent. She poured gasoline on the tent and lit it because she felt she'd been mistreated by the groom during their marriage.

A retired teacher in China went on trial this month for murdering her cheating husband because of blatant infidelity that spanned several decades. She put sleeping pills in his lunch, then strangled him with a rope when he fell asleep.

The Desire for Revenge

"It's natural for an infidelity victim to experience an urge to get revenge." says Houston, who has been researching infidelity for over 15 years. " When the shock and disbelief of being cheated on wear off, hurt and anger follow, accompanied by the desire for revenge. Some people are able control this urge. But others feel compelled to even the score."

Harmless Revenge vs Violent Revenge

Says Houston, "Some forms of revenge are relatively harmless. -- Things like hiding one cufflink from every pairs he owns, posting his name and the details of his infidelity on one of the websites where woman report cheating men, spreading the rumor that he's a lousy lover, or as one wife did this week , making the cheating husband stand on a busy thoroughfare with a sign around his neck that says "I cheated. This is my punishment."

Houston continues, "While these things may annoy, embarrass or inconvenience the cheater; they don't cause any real harm. However, they allow the scorned woman or the betrayed wife to feel vindicated, so she can move on with her life.

But Houston, reports seeing a trend towards increasingly more violent forms of revenge in the past few years.

Houston observes, "Violent acts of revenge used to be largely a male response to infidelity. But now women are getting in on the act. I'm truly shocked at the some of the vicious, destructive, illegal things women do to teach the cheater a lesson, or even the score. When it comes to violence, clearly the end does not justify the means, since actions of this kind can land a person in jail. It's never advisable to break the law just to get back at a cheating mate. Especially since there are legal ways to accomplish the same thing."

The Best Revenge

"Sometimes the best revenge is no revenge at all," says Houston, recounting the story of Beth, who divorced her husband after finding out about his affair: " Beth's husband knew she was a vindictive person, so he fully expected her to retaliate against him in some way. Beth decided he wasn't worth the effort, and simply moved on with her life. It turned out to be the best thing Beth could have done. Their mutual friends told Beth her ex-husband was obsessed with trying to figure out what Beth would do for revenge, and when she would make her move. He never again had a moment's peace of mind, and that turned out to be the best revenge of all."
