I well remember attending my first SF Writing For Change conference at the Unitarian Universalist Center in San Francisco. The lobby was buzzing with excitement and warm sunlight beamed through stained glass windows in the great room as it filled with writers and publishing folk.  It seemed almost too good to be true; I was  surrounded by people who have dedicated their lives to writing and upholding the importance of literacy and ideas in our culture. I loved meeting authors and attending educational seminars, as well as participating. I still draw upon wisdom I have gleaned from talks and keynotes at this gathering of visionaries.

Every year, I look forward to September when I know I will get to see a lot of familiar faces as well as all those writers from around the country. It is simply thrilling and, every year it just gets better thanks to the hard work of the board and directorship as well as a loyal cadre of experts and speakers.  The Writing for Change conference is uniquely wonderful for supporting writers as thought leaders fomenting change. All these years later, I still feel the same about the conference. I attend quite a few conferences every year but this one is different from all others. It is a bit more relaxed and the conversations run deep. Every single person there is an agent of change, whether it is advocating for social justice, the environment, women’s rights, or spiritual and personal transformation, the discussions are about how to make a difference. I have acquired about 6 books now from authors I met at Writing for Change, including Jen Cross’s Writing Ourselves Whole, an important book about healing from trauma and sexual assault. Her book is now a bestseller and has helped thousands of women recover and reclaim their lives. Hers is one success story of which there are many from Writing for Change. Join the fun, make your voice heard and help make this a better world.
