Why use a paragraph when a sentence will do? Why use a sentence when a word will do? Why speak when silence is needed?

In my work advising executives, I am often asked to give them feedback on their speeches, emails, blogs, and other communication. The most common mistake made is that there is far too much explaining, justification, detail, and superfluous background. That causes at best ambivalence and at worst confusion or cynicism.

Before you next share your wisdom with the world, ask yourself:
- What outcome do I want to achieve?
- What stories, examples, emotion, or metaphors can I use to make this message memorable?
- What am I asking my audience to do next?

It isn't enough to be brilliant. You have to be brilliant at demonstrating your brilliance.

Dedicated to growing your business,
