Jon and Kate will be making a life-changing announcement to make tonight.
Millions of eyes will be tuned in to Jon and Kate Plus 8 to hear what they have to say.
For several days now, people everywhere have been speculating as to what this announcement will be, since both Jon and Kate are rumored to be having extramarital affairs.
For weeks now, dual accusations of infidelity have made us privy to almost everything Jon and Kate have said and done - together, individually, or with someone else. There's probably not a media outlet in the country that hasn't run at least one story, or made one at least one reference to Jon and/or Kate.
What Will They Do? Who Wants to Know and Why? Are they separating? Getting a divorce? Will they begin seeing a marriage counselor to help get their marriage back on track? Will they cancel their show? Will the show remain on the air with only one parent and the 8 kids (Kate Plus 8? or Jon Plus 8 Minus Kate?) Did they really cheat on each other, or was it just a publicity stunt to get the ratings up?
Everyone will be watching and listening. Everyone wants to know.
But have you ever stopped to wonder why?
Why So Much Interest in the Fate of Jon and Kate? Infidelity expert Ruth Houston explains why the public is so interested in the fate of Jon and Kate.
According to Ruth Houston, the founder of www.InfidelityAdvice.com and the author of
"Is He Cheating on You?– 829 Telltale Signs, Jon and Kate owe this interest in their affairs (no pun intended) to the dual accusations of infidelity that began several weeks ago.
Houston, a New York infidelity expert who is frequently called on by the media to comment on celebrity infidelity, high profile infidelity court cases, and infidelity breaking news, says, "The public has an insatiable appetite for all things infidelity. Infidelity has become the new spectator sport. When someone in the public eye cheats, or is rumored to be cheating on his or her mate, the public wants to know every detail as the drama unfolds."
Houston continues, "People have voracious appetites for anything that deals with infidelity, cheating spouses, or extramarital affairs – especially when celebrities, or even pseudo-celebrities, like Jon and Kate are involved."
Infidelity Has Widespread Appeal Houston explains why infidelity has such broad appeal. "Infidelity is a topic that almost everyone can relate to in some way. A
USA Today/Gallup poll reported that 54% of Americans said they knew someone who had a cheating spouse. If you factor in unmarried people in committed relationships who are cheating on their mates, that percentage jumps even higher."
Houston continues, "Most people have at least one friend, relative, or co-worker who is cheating, or has been cheated on. An overwhelming majority have been on the receiving end of infidelity themselves. In one form or another (physical, emotional, online, female, same-sex, workplace), infidelity affects 80% of all marriages and committed relationships today."
Lessons to Be Learned "Infidelity is a recurring theme in almost every form of entertainment," says Houston. "Soap operas, talk shows, movies, novels, just to name a few. But apart from the entertainment value of infidelity, there are lessons to be learned. Public accounts of infidelity can provide valuable insight for couples or individuals who are struggling with infidelity issues of their own. The cheater, the infidelity victim, the Other Woman/ Other Man, and all the friends, co-workers and family members who know of, or who are affected by the affair, are curious about how others have handled similar situations."
Is It Too Late for Jon and Kate? Says Houston, "Jon and Kate have eight children. People want to know if they are going to separate, get a divorce, or try to get their marriage back on track. If tonight's big announcement is that they are filing for divorce, then it may be too late for Jon and Kate."
Go or Stay? When Should You Give a Cheater a Second Chance? Has Jon cheated? Has Kate? What should a couple do when one spouse has had an extramarital affair? Stay together? Or get a divorce? What if there are children involved? Each situation is different. Many factors have to be taken into consideration. A great deal depends on the circumstances of the infidelity, and the attitude of the spouse who had the affair.
Houston's
Go or Stay Tip Sheet covers some of the factors to considered when trying to decide whether or not you should leave a cheating spouse, or stay and give the cheater a second chance. For a FREE copy of the
