Do you get nervous when it comes to public speaking? Does it trip you up? Here’s how to move that fear out of your way!

After coaching with us, our clients often decide to join our FOM Coaching Certification program. They are so thrilled with their results that they want to learn how to apply our methodology to leading their team, their clients and the most important people in their lives.

Once they complete Steps 1 and 2 of our FOM Coaching Certification, we invite them to join an exclusive journaling group. Here they can share what’s going on in their personal and professional lives, their wins and losses, and their advice for others in the group. It’s a support system unlike any other.

A recent journal entry in this group caught our eye, so we asked the writer if we could share it here. It’s an awesome testament to the impact that coaching can have on one’s confidence when it comes to public speaking.

During my early morning Toastmasters meeting today, the leader of our group called my name – it was my turn to speak. The first thought that went through my mind was, “What am I going to say?!”

My first instinct was fear, but fear of what? Of being judged? Of looking silly?

Thanks to coaching, I was able to quickly identify the reason for my fear. It was my fear of being unprepared.

While there is nothing wrong with being prepared for whatever situation you’re facing, I used to wish I had more control over things.

Coaching taught me that while I can’t control what happens to me, I can control myself and my reactions.

So at Toastmasters, after being called upon, I just stood up, started talking and let my imagination take over.

I ended up winning the “Best Table Topics” ribbon!

Sometimes, we just need to trust that we will be able to figure things out when the time comes.

Do you get nervous when it comes to public speaking? Wouldn’t it be so freeing if you could identify the root of that fear, then move it out of your way? That’s exactly the type of thing we work on with our coaching clients.
