What’s in it for Me?
There are people whose lives and relationships revolve around “What’s in it for me?” I’m going to surprise you by pointing out that this is fine if “What’s in it for me?” might include:
• Helping others and being gratified by it.
• Philanthropy.
• Learning and new experiences.
• Supporting one’s family, friends, colleagues, community.
You get the idea.
But if “What’s in it for me?” is simply personal gain, wealth, status, and so forth, then that’s a pretty shallow person.
I believe that we’re entitled to equitable compensation for our value and contributions, and that we can also refuse such compensation when we choose to volunteer or provide pro bono services. But there are far too many people, especially on the internet, just trying to make money with no commensurate value provided. That’s what Ponzi Schemes are (aka: multi-level marketing), and that’s what the deals are when you watch four free videos and then receive “the ask” to learn how to provide four free videos and “the ask” to others.
Wealth is discretionary time. Money is fuel for wealth. The source of money is the providing of genuine value to others.
Simple as that.
