What Do When A Prospect Says, “Not Right Now”

When it comes to selling your membership, there are four possible responses that your ideal prospect can have.

1. YES!

2. No.

3. Maybe???

4. Not right now…

So how do you respond when someone says, “not right now…” to joining your membership.

There are a number of factors at play when it comes to this response.

It could be:

  • They don’t have a sense of urgency to join your membership
  • They feel they need to “get some things in order” before they join your membership
  • They’re still unsure of the outcome of the membership
  • It could also be that they’re not ready for the commitment that your membership requires

There are a number of reasons.

Just the other day, Mark F. sent me an email letting me know that he’s interested in joining the Membership Accelerators Club but “not right now.”

In his email he proceeded to tell me that he’s not started his membership yet and that he’s working on some other projects before he sets out to launch.

My response: “I’m here for you when you’re ready, in the meantime, I’ll do everything I can to help you along the way.”

When your ideal prospect says, “not right now,” you’ve got an opportunity to build the relationship and gain their trust.

I’d much rather have someone say “not right now” than for them to jump in and cancel only because the timing wasn’t right.

That’s why you nurture the relationship. Give them the time needed to make sure the membership is a right fit.

Who in your audience just needs a little more time? Go nurture those relationships and be there when they’re ready.
