PPM Analysis: The #1 Club. TALKERS magazine managing editor Mike Kinosian presents this “bonus” ratings feature that spotlights the stations that reached the #1 rank in their respective markets in both weekly, 6+ AQH share and in cume across all radio formats, according to Nielsen Audio’s July 2020 PPM survey. As the result of the COVID-19 effects on the nation’s sports leagues, sports talk radio is just beginning to be able to talk about live sports. This has left the sports talk format in the unusual position of not one sports talk station ranking #1 in its markets during the July 2020 survey. In this report, see charts indicating #1 AQH share stations by format; #1 cume stations by format; and market-by-market AQH and cume leaders here.

iHeartMedia and Dan Patrick Agree to Launch The Dan Patrick Podcast Network. This new project from iHeartMedia and sports media personality Dan Patrick will create The Dan Patrick Podcast Network that will host a slate of iHeartRadio original podcasts co-produced by Patrick, iHeartRadio and Workhouse Media. Patrick comments, “Who doesn’t love a great story! I love that I can introduce great storytellers through my partnership with iHeartRadio. Conal Byrne and his team have been outstanding in helping us pull together our launch slate of podcasts in sports and entertainment. I’m also thrilled that one of them, ‘The Battle for L.A,’ is already partnered for television and film with first-in-class, Oscar-winning Michael Sugar and his phenomenal team at Sugar23. I promise nobody is going to be bored with these shows.” Three new podcasts will launch soon as a part of the partnership. “The Battle For LA,” from Joy Road Entertainment, tells the story of the birth of professional basketball in Los Angeles and how the city’s two disparate franchises helped shape not just the NBA, but shifted the influence of sports and culture to the West Coast. “Two Guys From Hollywood” (subtitled “We Don’t Dish, We Serve”) is a weekly podcast from literary agent Alan Nevins and celebrity chef and columnist Joey Santos. “Meeting Tom Cruise” is hosted by die-hard Tom Cruise fans Jeff Meacham(“John Oppenhol” on the hit ABC comedy Black•ish) and Joel Johnstone (“Archie Clearly” on the Emmy-Award winning series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), this weekly podcast features celebrity guests telling their own incredible stories about meeting the legendary star.

Michael Medved Is This Week’s Guest on Harrison Podcast. KTTH, Seattle and nationally syndicated CRN Digital Talk Radio Network host Michael Medved is this week’s guest on the award-winning PodcastOne series, “The Michael Harrison Interview.” Medved, the prolific author of numerous best-selling books about American politics and popular culture, is also a highly respected movie critic whose short-form reviews are carried on a number of stations across the nation. Although a “dedicated conservative,” Medved began swimming against the tide of Trumpism after the 2016 election resulting in his departure from a longtime association with the Salem Radio Network. Harrison and Medved engage in a fascinating conversation that includes memories of the host’s days as a student at Yale Law School where he was a classmate and friend of Hillary and Bill Clinton. They discuss Medved’s work on the campaigns of iconic assassinated Democrats Robert F. Kennedy and Allard K. Lowenstein back on the late 1960s. He was with Kennedy when the senator was shot and killed in Los Angeles – an event he describes as “scarring him for life.” The conversation analyzes today’s presidential race, the USPS controversy, and changes in the motion picture industry accelerated by COVID-19, plus more.
