Lifesaving Resources (lifesaving.com), in cooperation with the York Co. (Maine) Fire Chiefs Association, will be conducting a 1-day WATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN course on September 29, and a 2-day SWIFTWATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN course on September 29-30, both in Kennebunkport, Maine.

The 1-day WATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN course includes a 4.5-hour classroom session, followed by a 4.5-hour in-water practical session.  This course is designed to provide First Responders with the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively respond to incidents in, on and around the water.  The practical session is conducted in an ocean venue.  Participants must be in good physical condition and will be required to provide their own wetsuit or dry suit in order to participate, along with rigid-sole footgear and gloves.

The 2-day SWIFTWATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN course includes day 1 of the Water Rescue Technician course, followed by a 2nd-day practical session conducted entirely in a river venue.  This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively respond to incidents in all types of water venues, including moving water incidents.  Participants must be in good physical condition and be strong swimmers and required to provide their own wetsuite or dry suit, along with rigid-sole footgear and gloves.

Lifesaving Resources will provide helmets and type V Rescue PFDs for all participants in both courses.  These courses meet/exceed NFPA 1670 and 1006, and certification is valid for 5 years from the course completion date.  Tuition includes lunch, Course Completion Certificates and Insignia, along with 1 - 2 full days of instruction.

The training will be conducted by Gerry Dworkin, a professional Aquatics Safety & Water Rescue Consultant for Lifesaving Resources, along with additional faculty from Fire and Rescue Departments in Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
