The Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame HONORS Five $2,000 Scholarships to Aspiring Colorado Authors To-Be on September 16!

Aspiring Authors … It’s the BIG day coming … and five amazing authors-to-be will be awarded scholarships with a combination of cash and an intensive 18-month mentorship program. Who will they be? Find out and meet the first recipients of the Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame Scholarships on FRIDAY, September 16 at a festive luncheon honoring them in the Tuscany Ballroom at Denver University.

Five … yes, that is FIVE authors-to-be will receive $2,000 in cash PLUS participation in an extensive 18-month mentorship to support their success as an author next month. Each of the amazing and talented recipients recognizes that publishing and authorship is a business and authors must have a commitment to their craft and marketing side to add to their success. Writing and publishing a book is like climbing one of our Rocky Mountain ‘fourteeners’. It requires years of preparation, unbelievable stamina, and courage. Facing that blank page is like starting an ascent. When you reach the top by completing the book, authors can suddenly see farther than ever before. This vision from the pinnacle is the gift authors give their readers. Now, the Hall would like to give a gift back to Colorado’s authors who desire to reach the publishing summit. Their impact on countless readers in providing entertainment, enlightenment, and solutions is immeasurable.

The scholarship is part of The Hall’s commitment to encourage, support, and nurture Colorado-connected writers and will be offered in odd-numbered years—it’s a “heart” dream of mine for many years and I’m thankful that the Hall’s Board got behind it when I proposed it last year. When I started publishing … gulp, 40 years ago … I would have drooled over the opportunity to have something like this available. There wasn’t and to my knowledge, the Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame is the only player in the country doing something of this magnitude for up-and-coming authors. Makes me so proud!

To be considered, 18 applicants stepped up to the plate with an Essay on what it would be mean to them; what their aspirations were; and what they would do with the money. Detailed sampling of their work was also included. The seven judges stepped up to the plate and devoured everything, and then we met. Two of them were on everyone’s top five list … check. Then the heavy discussions on the merits of the remaining 16 and a decision made … with two so close, that we are scratching our heads about what we can help them with.

Hall Chair Mara Purl will emcee the celebration event and 2021 Inductee Patricia Raybon will give a short presentation on writing success.

NOW … what we need is YOU. If you are in Colorado … COME to the event. The cost is $75. It includes your parking—$15 of it is a donation to the Hall. The rest is all food and facility-related costs. I do know of two who are flying in from Las Vegas for the big event … they love what we do here to support authors.
