Veronica Johnson has been named the chief meteorologist for 7News’ First Alert Weather Team.  According to WJLA, “Johnson is making history by becoming the first Black woman to take the title in the station’s 75-year history.”

She has been the 7News Morning Lead Meteorologist since 2016.

Earlier this year, Johnson was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences “Silver Circle.” This award marks 25 years or more of achievement in the broadcast industry.

Johnson is an Emmy-award-winning meteorologist who has been forecasting weather in the D.C. market for more than two decades. She started her meteorologist broadcasting career at the Weather Channel and worked for WABC in New York City, WMAR in Baltimore and WRC in Washington, D.C., before joining the 7News-WJLA TV Weather team. She was also the first meteorologist hired by Sinclair Broadcast Group when the company started its first newscast in 1991 at WBFF TV in Baltimore.
