It’s amazing how much you can convey in a 30-second TV ad. FRENCH Funerals & Cremations just came out with two attention-getting commercials that convey the importance of pre-need funeral planning.

This first one, “Coffee Can,” starts with a mother and daughter eating together at home. The mother says, “Why are we talking about this over the dinner table? Just put my ashes in a coffee can, or something. Please pass the salt, dear.”

As she picks up the salt shaker and thumps it on the table, the scene cuts to the daughter in the grocery store, dressed in mourning clothes. She’s distraught, looking at rows of coffee cans.

A grocery store employee walks up and says, “Can I help you, ma’am?”

“Yah, which can would you recommend I put my mom’s ashes in?”

“Uh, I think I heard ashes.”

“I’m sorry, my mom’s cremated remains.”

“That sounds the same.”

“My mom didn’t even like coffee. She drank tea.”

The closing message: “You can’t avoid your funeral. Preplan and take the burden off of someone else.”

Congratulations to the fine folks at FRENCH and their agency McKee Wallwork + Company for a compelling message, brilliantly delivered!

They also did this second ad, “Backyard.” What do you do when a parent says to just bury them in the backyard? Take a look and let me know what you think!
