Woven together by wonder, water, and words

Video Clip: Click to Watch

Calling in the Clans, today between 1 and 4 get to Burbank VFW Post  8310  and get your scrabble on.  You CAN gaelicize for kids' sakes or eat, schmooze and be merry and win a prize.

You can come for the game and leave a continuing legacy to progress steadily forward.

Although it sounds like a puzzle,  trapped in meaning, continuing unabated and not an enigma….it's echoing the reason for gathering and the history of such posts…its also besides club that is hosting our Scrabble social the way we learn language through sharing words, food, friends and looking to solve a problem.  As author Cliff B. O'Connell puts it…"reading (words) made me human"(paraphrased from Stillness of the Night an e-book celebrated at the party, gathering reader quotes, and in prerelease for the third and fourth quarters.

It neighborhoods, saving water, working together to salvage important values, words, and habits are were it's going to continue to be at in LA …old ad copy…where we're in this together., then what better to do than to bring the whole family, play scrabble and make friends?

By discovering "Water and Power Press" and "words" in making new friends, a collaborative of nonprofits are acting to raising scholarship and operational dollars creating a family Saturday event around music, culture, and Education. In and out of LA, New Education Options leads classroom projects and KidsFirst So Cal, it's sponsored childcare programs tutor, run year round services, and helps K-5 year olds to learn at multiple sites,.  Like the insignia on the clubhouse walls, these two public school initiatives are with the help of the Celtic Arts Center calling a party to help them progress and with Liggett Street, Plummer, and The Legends Gym leaving a legacy with literacy and numeracy.

Wearing another "currency" of trade and collaborative thinking, the Standing-Ferguson Tartan or California's own magic threads (Director Bo Lebo will be wearing another legacy project, the California state insignia tartan, thanks to the Standing/Ferguson family legacies and the gift of the Scottish Clans & Off Kilter Kilts in Pasadena).

Said J Howard Standing, late president of the St. Andrews Society of Los Angeles "I didn't want to get into an argument with the Campbells, the McPhersons, etc., etc. I thought, no one in California is going to argue with the Muir family"1In late 1997, while President of the St. Andrew's Society of Los Angeles, Mr. Standing initiated a campaign to have the design he and Mr. Ferguson had created adopted by the State of California as its official tartan" With a sett similar to John Muir, naturalist and conservationist, it seems a perfect way of honoring NEO's January event about the red thread that connects us now in pattern 2454 reminding everyone that the water, air, mountains, plants, and geology around us represented by light blue, read, Kelly green, yellow and black reflects now the gift of the clans to remember and forward stewarding the Earth and to look at all the connections we must conserve through language, honoring the past and in the present and future value action. http://saintandrewsla.org/….Ceud Mile Failte!)

New and old stories that make us who we are and help us remember ourselves and envision our future are displayed on the walls in the front room as badges of honor and remembrance.  You will also find the The newly formed ComhaltasLA on the flier, and the Sword of Light and CDs that recognize the accomplishments of the nonprofit and its continuing role in promoting the burgeoning culture in Southern California and the impat of the Celtic Nations.

In the year of  speaking Irish and of the San Diego and Seaside Games, fairs, and gatherings demonstrate we connected by the red and blue threads that move towards our hearts or away from them. In the heart beat of an afternoon at the USS Gudgeon Post 8310 is the legacy of the fathers, the rhythm of the summer solstice, and the pending Annual Conference to be held in Killarney sponsored by GLOBE Ireland and An Taisce will be touted.  The call to find out about the DNA of the Elliott, Bell, Armstrong and other clans will be encouraged by raffling off one Y-67 DNA kit to raise money for scholarships and kick off awareness of the liquids that keep us stirring.

By volunteers and donors:

As a pending new book launch about tough times and coping,  this Scrabble in English and Gaelic, the water cycle discussion vetted by directors Bo Lebo and Denise Ovaldson and the donations of NASA, USGS, Off Kilter Kilts, Read Ireland, Dr. J. Jackson, Home Depot Burbank, William Elliott/Mindspan Music, and more will entertain, educate, and illumine the guests.  Add this to your facebooks, and bring your scrabble dictionary!

What to do in Gaelic or in English:

Come and "gaelicize" at this event. Park at 1006 W Magnolia on the street in front in Burbank. Put your multi-linguality to the test. Pin the word on the water cycle to win a prize. Buy plants and drink, eat, converse and have fun. The teams or party who fill in the most words in any of the 205 languages spoken in LA not now available for the water cycle chart by the USGS Water Science Center will be donating their vocabulary words to Atlanta and winning a prize useful for summer recreation.

Offerings and possibilities:

You might enjoy the music or buy tee shirts or CDs from Denise Ovaldson from partnering artists who are members of the Celtic Arts Center.com. Or you might look and bid on NASA indoor air cleaning plants provided by Home Depot Burbank.  If you are not winning at Scrabble, you might want to buy Robert Escalante's "Scrabble book" to make yourself or your child a "smart bird" like the brainy birds of First Five.  Ravendaughter's Mandalynth's will be for purchase and so will John Gibbon  and Ariyana with crystals and stones for collecting and a present for those who attend.

DNA threads all the way back to creation, find out your own (on the male line):

FamilytreeDNA has donated a Y-DNA kit to help you discover your heritage on the father's line to join the Bell's, the Elliott's, the Armstrong's, the Grahame's, and the other surname projects that are mapping the Scottish and Irish families and rediscovering history one cheek swab at a time.  NEO will raffle off the kit to raise funds for its project and for Kids First So Cal scholarships.

In the context of the news, the weather, the trade and the kilter, we give thanks and competitive playful activities:

Thanks to the generosity of the Irish Fair, Clan Bell, Senator Hertzberg's office, St. Anthony's and so many others this first of many indie book launches with music and social effect looks to be successful and growing in potentiality.  From cleaner indoor air to aerosol measurements through citizen science, from school success through greater vocabularies to using Cliff O'Connell's pending ebook release to gather like minded folks, schmooze while board gaming, making words important in competition and in recreation…the day will have food, fun, drink and an educational quality to it.

Bid on the DNA Kit, put an offer on a plant, or use your phone as a tool for school success, to study gaelic lesson homework or pronunciation, look at your test results or run data through the GLOBE apps to protect Oak trees, understand the Santa Barbara mud slide or to look at Earth Sciences and ground temperature…..it's no longer a fad but a part of the IT and English Mastery plan for students who will take on STEM, 21st century thinking and statistics or coding before we do.

It's a big mix up of natural and academic elements and just like the bag of tiles and the words you may need a muse to remember all for the kids to succeed in school, the culture to self-generate and continue, and the mutual fun and discovery to be had by all.  Donations under EIN 954849246 and are tax deductible.  Go Rightly and Boldly forward and help us take LA's "Wind in the Willows" to new riverbank bands of students and to bring new students to the Tae Bo Gym and to playful learning at Kids First sites this year and next!  Announcement of upcoming events and ways to preorder "Stillness of the Night" and underwrite after school programs at the event.
