If you've tried to schedule an appointment for your pet to see the vet, it's possible you've had to wait. Many vets in our area are stretched thin. More people are beginning to adopt pets, but staffing issues, people retiring or just leaving the profession has made it more difficult for people to get their pets the attention they need. But one veterinarian says there's a much bigger crisis at hand. "Suicide rates among veterinarians have really gone up. And it's the number one profession for suicide now, and it didn't use to be that rate. And that has also contributed to this perception, or maybe we don't have enough veterinarians," says Randall Davis, the owner of the Tennessee Valley Animal Clinic. A study from the CDC shows that one out of every ten veterinarians may be suffering from psychological distress. Studies show that the pet population has increased by at least 30% during the pandemic.
