Vegan Animal Shelters?– Stock Market Bearish? – Arctic Environment?

1) Stock Market Sentiment Turning Bearish... What Next?

In what may be a surprising twist at the end of a strong year in the market, Boston Consulting Group found that fully 46% of investors were pessimistic about equity markets for the next year.  The reading is up from 32% a year ago, and just 19% in 2015.  As global equity benchmarks have rallied, more investors also see the market as too expensive.  Fully 68% of respondents said the equity market is "overvalued," more than double the 29% of respondents who thought as much last year.  And nearly 80% of investors describing themselves as market bears cited "overvaluation" as the reason for their market pessimism, the survey found.

2) Q: What Do You Get When You Cross Human Arrogance, Virtue Signalling, And Cruelty To Animals? A: A Vegan Animal Shelter
"You're kidding, right? You don't actually expect me to eat this crap. do you?"

Here's my latest theory:  California progressives have decided that they can adopt any left-sounding idea, no matter how crazy, and get away with it, so sometimes they propose these things just to see if there's nothing Californians won't accept if it has the right progressive label.  That's the only explanation I can come up with for this story.

A proposal pending before the Los Angeles City Board of Animal Services Commissioners would make the city's animal shelters the first vegan system in the nation. That's right: the dogs in the city's care  would be placed on a strict vegan diet. Maybe the idea is to have the dogs beg to be euthanized.

3) A Wildcard in the Arctic

Wildcards are highly improbable and mostly unexpected events. According to noted Futurist Dr. Oliver Markley, "Type II Wildcards are held to be credibly plausible, even probable, by specific experts who can say why, but they are not seen as credible by others". If you are a fan of the television series Madame Secretary, then you have surely seen the recent episode in which a Russian environmentalist and social entrepreneur was critically affected by the Type II Wildcard that is the subject of this Herman Trend Alert.

Melting permafrost across the Arctic

There is no doubt that the Arctic sea ice is melting. From stark satellite views of Greenland's coast to pictures of marooned polar bears, starving to death, to an expose of Russians celebrating the increase in activity in their northern seaports, we see undeniable images that drive the point home. And while the melting ice may be raising sea level imperceptively, it is also exposing hundreds of millions of square miles at the top of the planet that had been covered with ice for eons.
