Upward African Women Presents "Providing Pathways To Success" Gala

The International Organization “Upward African Women” hosted their 3rd Annual Black Tie Gala “Providing Pathways to Success” benefiting women and children through their educational and childcare programs both in the USA and Afrika. The event took place on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the beautiful Temple Emmanuel located in Beverly Hills, CA. Recording artist Chante Moore was the featured performing talent.

Princess Monalisa Okojie
Upward African Women (UAW), a California based 501c3 that was founded in 2014 by Princess Monalisa Okojie. Her objective was to establish and support programs that directly dealt with poverty, illiteracy, disease, and hopelessness as to improve the overall wellbeing of the Afrikan woman and child in Africa and the United States. Since its inception, UAW has provided services for more than 1500 women and children with no signs of slowing down. These recipients are primarily the victims of cultural, mental, sexual abuse and neglect.

When asked about relations between American Blacks and Blacks in the homeland of Afrika, Princess Okojie explains, “What can I say? It’s been a rough relationship, but I think it’s getting better. As Far as I’m concerned, I truly feel diplomacy works. So all of the leaders need to do weather in Afrika or here, they just need to talk. Arrive at an agreement then all is well. Yes, I believe the relationship is getting better especially with Afrikan Americans because now they all want to go back to the motherland. They are traveling a lot and they found out that every time they go back, people are embracing them and they are so surprised about it. So with that aspect, the relationship is getting better. Princess Okojie is an attorney, entrepreneur and philanthropist from Nigeria, the giant of Afrika.

Talent Headliner Chante Moore
As with all such auspicious occasions, the elegant evening began with a celebrity and VIP red carpet which flowed into a wine reception social mixer. After which, guest were seated in the banquet hall for salad and a delicious three-course dinner served with wine that featured traditional Afrikan cuisines from Ethiopia, Nigeria and Kenya. After a menu of asorted scrumptious deserts with post meal coffee poured, the night’s ceremonies began. There were introductions and performances then the headline act Chante Moore came on and brought the house down with a fantastic show.  (I personally didn't know she had that 5 octave vocal range). The awards included scholarships that were given to 10 girls in Accra, Ghana; 7 children in Makoko, Nigeria and 50 children for education and feeding in Mombasa, Kenya.
