If nothing else, many actions of the Trump administration have provided plenty of fodder for late-night talk show hosts and other comedians. The recent United Airlines customer-dragging incident has gotten its fair share of attention as well.
Some people are offended by this. But laughter is our way of helping defuse a tense situation.
There are some brands that take their share of ridicule with a good sense of humor. Immediately after the United airline, a tweet was circulated with the Southwest logo saying "We beat the competition. Not you."
It's unlikely this was actually created by Southwest, but it reflects the style and tone of what customers believe is the Southwest brand.
Many brands from JetBlue to Pizza Hut to Oreos have jumped in with quick humorous tweets or ads that lighten the mood and make us laugh.
When you take yourself too seriously, not only do you open yourself up to others ridiculing you, you also make us wonder what's really going on. What are they hiding? Why do they seem to not be able to laugh with us?
Does your company have a healthy sense of humor? Are you prepared to lighten the mood when things get tough?
