We often ignore the issues of longevity and the impact aging has on our loved ones and our savings. However, when we see famous people we know go through these issues we sometimes pay more attention. This is the message delivered to financial advisors and insurance agents today.

Matt McCann, a nationally known expert on Long-Term Care Insurance and planning, told a group this morning on a conference call that Tim Conway and Senator John McCain should give us all pause to consider if we have planned ourselves for the financial costs and burdens of aging.

"If you are over age 45 you remember the comedy genius of Tim Conway. Be it from McHale's Navy, Carol Burnett Show or other programs, many of us grew up enjoying his work. All of us know of Senator John McCain and his story. While both have had different routes on the road of longevity, their stories remind us that we need a plan to address the financial costs and burdens that come with aging," McCann said.

Like former First Lady Barbara Bush, Senator John McCain's decision to discontinue medical treatment is always a hard decision on family and friends. Whether you call it hospice, comfort care or palliative care, this end-of-life care can often last weeks or longer.

"The same forces that cause more people to require long-term care services and supports impact end-of-life needs as well. Long-Term Care Insurance will pay for these hospice related needs at home or in a facility. It is important to remember that long-term care is usually a slow progression. We usually start with care at home and sometimes progresses. Affordable Long-Term Care Insurance will pay for services at home, adult daycare, assisted living, memory care and nursing home care. This allows American families to protect savings and ease the burdens that come with longevity," McCann added.

Tim Conway's dementia has forced, according to media reports, his daughter to legally take over his needs. According to legal filings, Conway's wife decided to take him out of a very good nursing facility impacting the quality of his care.

"Often a family may make decisions based on money. When a fmaily has a Long-Term Care policy these decisions are easier as the policy will pay for quality care. This safeguards the assets while reducing the hardships on loved ones," McCann said.

McCann said the best time to plan is before retirement. He told the group that most of his clients are in their 40s or 50s as they make Long-Term Care Insurance part of their overall retirement strategy.

"I help clients nationwide of all ages. There are some options available for those who are older, but it is always least expensive and easier when you plan before you retire," McCann explained.

McCann assists people nationwide using his unique process where they speak with him on the phone while seeing his computer screen on their computer. He works with all the major companies in Long-Term Care.  Consumers can reach McCann through his website at www.mccannltc.net.

"The thing people should remember is Long-Term Care Insurance is easy and affordable income and asset protection. We plan because we love our family and these plans do just that," he said.
