As part its celebrations of the Fisher-Price brand’s 90-year legacy, Mattel has unveiled the Fisher-Price Toy Museum exclusively on Instagram. The all-digital museum provides a virtual trip down memory lane with more than 90 exhibits of classic Fisher-Price toys organized by decade.

The exhibition was curated, designed, and creatively presented by Los Angeles-based artist and designer, Leila Fakouri. Fakouri has created an immersive mix of photography, sound, and video that contextualizes each toy within a vibrantly designed background. Each display is accompanied by a short vignette telling when each toy was produced, along with a bit of its history for context.

Mattel assembled a team of docents to help guide visitors through the digital exhibition, including 99-year old fashion icon, Iris Apfel, who waxes poetic about Mickey Mouse Band, the first Disney toy made by Fisher-Price.

No museum is complete without a gift shop. The Fisher-Price Toy Museum also provides a link to an online store with a limited selection of branded products for purchase.

The Fisher-Price Toy Museum is more than a fitting tribute to this classic brand and its many iconic toys. It is also a wonderful use of a popular digital media platform, beautifully showcasing objects of nostalgia for the enjoyment of toy enthusiasts worldwide.

Todd Coopee is Editor-in-Chief of Toy Tales, an online publication that covers toys and games past and present.
