What we found was by improving the posture of the patients and having the correct body mechanics we see an instant improvement of muscle strength, regardless of age group. Patients describe their experience everywhere from feeling taller, stronger and were intrigued by the improvement in shoulder and upper body balance, and difference in muscle strength. Most people are aware that having bad posture could lead to physical problems later

on. What you do not know is that posture can affect your vision.

Forward Head Posture

Based on Program for Better Vision, studies conducted reveal that postural imbalances

are highly associated with poor vision. If you are sitting in front of the computer all day

and you no longer have a perfect 20/20 vision, chances are your posture has affected

your visual acuity more than the computer screen. In relation to this, your daily work

routine could have led to your development of forward head posture.

Before the age of technology dawned on human civilization, people walk with their ears

positioned directly on top of their shoulders. With computers as the primary workstation,

many people have adopted a posture where the ears are forward the shoulder, known

as the forward head posture.

When you unconsciously assume the forward head posture, the head adds 4.5 kgs in

weight for each inch it sits forward from the shoulders. The body has to adjust to this

imbalance by forcing the upper back and neck muscles to work double time to stop the

head from falling onto your upper body. As a result, pressure on the nerves at the

foundation of the skull is increased.

Effects

Exactly how does this posture affect vision? When the photoreceptor cells in your eyes

are stimulated by light, the signal is transmitted from the optic nerve to the visual cortex,

where the information is interpreted. The processed signal is then forwarded to the

spinal cord and to the rest of the body.

If you have a slouched posture, the connections between your eyes and the rest of the

body are affected and over time, the condition can lead to decreased circulation,

fatigue, and blurred vision. When vision has been affected by postural imbalances, the

condition can be aggravated by moving the neck forward to clearly see a distant object.

Before you know it, you already have the worst eyesight compounded by your poor

posture.

Nowadays, forward head posture is a condition that affects more than 66 percent of the

population. Other than blurred vision, the imbalance can lead to headache and mental

disorders.

Correction

Being responsible for your posture is the first step to healing. When standing up, make

sure that your weight is evenly distributed. In this position, you avoid unconsciously

slouching. On the other hand, when sitting down, position a part of your buttocks close

to the chair’s backrest to keep your body upright.

People may think that posture has nothing to do with blurred eyesight. However, studies

suggest that postural imbalances are linked to poor vision. As most of your time is spent

solving company problems in front of the computer, you are most likely to develop

forward head posture. This condition can gradually damage synaptic connections

between the eyes and the rest of the body, leading to poor vision. So stop blaming the

computers and take full responsibility of your posture now.

Wear your BAX-U brace like a shirt.
1- Loosen the shoulder straps and move them up on top of your shoulders. (keep it loose)

G- Feel about 25-30% shoulder retraction. Don’t go for a dramatic shift as the muscles will fatigue and it will not last long!

1- Keep the upper “V” away from your neck
2- Retract your shoulders
3- Allows your mid/lower back to act as a pivital point in moving you in better alignment and stronger muscles.

Is techology affecting your self expression?

Hi my name is Dr. Romina Ghassemi during my 21 years in practice I have noticed a shift in my patient diagnostic demographics from lower back & sciatic pain to Headaches, Neck & Upper back pain.  In parallel, a fast rise of mental problems from Anger issues to ,… ADD & ADHD reported.

Smart devices, Physical body, and Mental reactions leave clues for the rapidly changing societies of developing communities.

As a young girl growing up in Iran, Tehran, I was told a good girl is one that has her head down. “Dose not stare back when spoken to”. “Keeping your head down is being humble”. In my culture a lady is, subordinate, graceful & humble. In fact this resonates with most females around Middle east, Far east and Asia.

Now fast forward an adventurous historical 30+ years of changes in the world, and Me.   Today I am a trained Doctor form America, and see people in a different view.   I see more people with their shoulders rolled in and heads down.   Except it’s not for being graciously humble, it’s for different reason.  As the world speeds thru Smart high tech devices.   Our bodies & behaviors change to meet the demands imposed upon it.

Do you text? use computers? drive?

Body talks:

As you lean into your computers, your “Shoulders rolled in, back is slouched, and  head moves forward”.   This unconscious, simple, adaptive, change can affect the nerve structures feeding to many key organs. Insulting the harmonious melody of form and function of the body.  You get DIS- EASE State of health and symptoms occur such as PAIN.

Mind Reacts:

Forward head position, can affect C5, nerves which feed to Vocal cords, shoulders and diaphragm. In Buddhism the 5th chakra/Throat Chakra, is the ability to clearly communicate ones feelings and thoughts.

This compression with 5th chakra & C5 nerve, can have behavior effects,… One can become less talkative, more introverted, might feel exhausted.  This graceful, humble posture I was taught can actually affect more than a nerve pinch and neck pain.   Affecting ones, ability to clearly communicate, hold her/his stance, grant themselves freedom of self expression, speaking ones mind, opinion or truth. I can say in summary, its freedom of self expression.

Spirit Manifests:

Confidence, Belief, Certainty, Happiness, Love and Joy are spiritual manifestations in optimal expression when body and mind are at their best. Poor posture affects mind and body, it can affect life in decision making, out look to future, confidence and trust in self and others ,…

Have you ever experienced a headache? Majority of headaches have their underlying cause out side the brain and head area.  Did you know every day millions of people suffer form headaches. Most are either migraine ( Vascular) or Tension type ( muscular).

Migraines:

Infrequent as once per year to several times per day. If you ever lived with someone or yourself experienced a migraine attack, you know it affects you not just suffering in pain, and emotional sensitivity but it robs you from seconds of your life. A migraine can last several hours to days, felt on both sides , throbbing or pulsating, stabbing or piercing pain. This type of headache can interfere with function of other body parts such as vision, smell, mood, nausea or vomiting.

Tension Headaches:

Constant, deep dull ache that can be felt on both sides, feels like a compressing or pressure pain.

1-Tips on Preventing headaches:

Wear Comfortable and Effective Posture Supports.

Eliminate your food allergies

Mediate, & Think Positive

Get your spine checked

Adopt proper posture

Sleep 6-8 hrs / night

Regular Exercise

2-Immediate relief:

Lay on the bed, let you head rest on the edge of the bed.

Roll a warm towel under your neck.

Place a cool towel over your eyes.

Breath 5-7 deep breaths

(Inhale 2x longer than exhale for example inhale on count of 8, and exhale on count of 4)
