Continuing the track of this week’s Monday Motivator, and that phrase that was used all tooooooo often in my youth (thanks, Mom,) “Leave your time at the other end,” here is sommore ‘motivation’ or at least justification…

Leaving your time at the other end means moving it to more current rather than later. The reverse of waiting til the last minute.

SOONER rather than LATER.

Consider this. You have a task on your to do list, one that MUST be done. Examples include car inspection, taxes, anything with a hard due date, airline reservations for a trip…

The reality is that these things MUST be done. So, the building reserves strategy around these tasks is to do them earlier rather than later, or horrors, at the very last minute. Again, the point is that if these things MUST be done, Why add last minute stress about doing them?

We all know that waiting til the last minute can cause trouble because of unanticipated times and tasks.

  • The loooong wait in the car inspection line on the last day of the month
  • Burning the midnight oil to get your taxes in by April 15
  • Having to pay more or unable to get the airline reservation you desire

Assess how much time these individual MUST DO tasks will take under normal circumstances, then add at least half time more for your “waiting til the last minute penalty.” Yes, this last minute stuff will penalize you either with having to experience more stress or more time.

The simple solution is to move it forward, to “leave time at the other end.”

It’ll save you time and stress in the long run. Count on it.
