The Caring Generation® Talk Radio: Making Life-Changing Decisions

Golden CO- Caregiving expert, Pamela D. Wilson hosts The Caring Generation radio program for caregivers and aging adults this coming Wednesday, September 4, 2019, on the Bold Brave Media Global Network. The program airs live at 9 p.m. EST. The Caring Generation® originally aired from 2009 to 2011 on 630 KHOW-AM in Denver, Colorado.

The caregiving topic for this week's program is "How to Make Life-Changing Decisions." The financial topic is "How to Avoid Scams."

Emotional trade-offs exist related to care decisions, managing well-being and health, being a working caregiver, financial decisions and more. Care situations don't always happen according to plan and difficult choices have to be made between alternatives.

Caregivers soon realize that there is a "price of not putting a price on love." Since society doesn't talk about becoming a caregiver for aging parents, spouses and others – the idea of caregiving is pushed to being a family responsibility – there is not a lot of talk about care or caregiving costs. These costs are not purely financial. The costs of care and caregiving are physical, emotional, physical, and personal.

The personal costs may be the easiest to understand. An aging parent becomes ill. There may or may not be family – brothers, and sisters who can help. One child accepts the main caregiving responsibility. Adult children caring for aging parents have careers, their families, and still may be raising young children.

The majority of caregivers, on average, spend 24 hours a week helping an aging parent. One in 4 caregivers spends more than 40 hours a week.  The time demands can feel overwhelming. Risk exists for working caregivers especially working women caregivers who leave jobs because of an inability to meet work responsibilities as time spent caregiving and the demands are taking over life.

As parents age, judgment about people who have questionable intentions declines. Many older adults are too trusting of strangers, who seem friendly, but have the intention of doing harm. Maro Casparian, the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement for the Denver Colorado District Attorney's Office joins this program to talk about scams. Older adults are commonly victims of financial, telephone, and internet scams.

Most consumers receive daily solicitation calls about health insurance, social security scams, or other threats that can be concerning. During this week's program, Maro will talk about the top scams happening right now, social media hacks, spoofing and how consumers can protect themselves.

Joining The Caring Generation® radio program is a way everyone to become comfortable talking and laughing about aging, health, caregiving, and everything in between. There are many things to learn about life and being a caregiver.  Pamela's approach to caregiving is authentic and light-hearted. She believes that serious subjects benefit from humor and laughter.

Make plans to join Pamela D. Wilson, caregiving expert and the host of The Caring Generation® radio at 6 p.m. Pacific, 7 p.m. Mountain, 8 p.m. Central, and 9 p.m. Eastern.  Replays of the weekly programs are available in podcast format with transcripts on Pamela's website.  More information about online support and online courses for caregivers is available on Pamela website.
