Road trips are a past time and meant to be enjoyed. Taking a road trip during the holidays can mean quite the opposite as the roads are flooded with cars, which leads to accidents, traffic jams, and road rage. Thanksgiving is a holiday where many people hit the roads to be with their loved ones, so if you are planning on driving this Thanksgiving, make sure to plan ahead and take these tips into consideration before you hit the pavement.

Thanksgiving Road Trip Tips

Be Smart About Your Departure

Most people decide to leave on Wednesday, so make sure you plan your departure either before or after Thanksgiving. If your trip only takes a few short hours, you can leave on Thursday at dawn. You’ll arrive in the morning and be ready to enjoy your full weekend ahead. If your trip takes several hours or even days, consider leaving on Monday or Tuesday to get a head start on the Wednesday traffic.

Take Frequent Breaks

Driving is a mentally taxing activity. It’s recommended that you take a break from driving every 3 to 4 hours; pull over to a gas station and stretch your legs and get some fresh air. This is also a good time to let another driver take over and drive until the next breakpoint.

Bring a Good Book

If you have some time between conversations, pull out that book you’ve been meaning to read for the past few months.

No matter when you hit the road, you will need to invest in a San Antonio, TX car insurance policy to protect you against any accidents. For help finding an auto insurance policy that will fit your needs, contact the Texas insurance professionals at Jerry R Carnahan Insurance.
