THE ORIGINOF ADHD

US American psychiatrist, Leon Eisenberg,born in 1922 as the son of Russian Jewish Immigrants, who was the “Scientificfather of ADHD” said at the age or 87 in his last interview, “ADHD is a prime exampleof a fictitious disease.” Since 1968, Leon Eisenberg’s “disease” was expressedin the diagnostic and statistical manuals, first as “hyperkinetic reaction ofchildhood”, now called “ADHD”.

 Fortunately, the Swiss National AdvisoryCommission on Biomedical Ethics (NEK, President: Otfried Höffe) criticallycommented on the use of the ADHD drug Ritalin in its opinion of 22 November2011. The NDK criticized that it amounted to interference in the child’sfreedom and personal rights, because pharmacological agents induced behavioralchanges but failed to educate the child on how to achieve these behavioralchanges independently. The child was deprived of an essential learningexperience to act autonomously and emphatically which “considerably curtails theirfreedom and impairs their personality development.

 Have groups marketed the diagnosis of ADHDin the service of pharmaceutical markets and tailor-made propaganda and publicrelations? The issue led to the investing of “financial ties” between DSM-IV PanelMembers and the Pharmaceutical Industry that became a study by the Americanpsychologist Lisa Cosgrove and others. They found that “Of the 170 DSM panelmembers 95 (56%) had one or more financial associations with companies in thepharmaceutical industry.

 In addition, they found that one hundredpercent of the members of the panels on ‘Mood Disorders’ and ‘Schizophrenia andOther Psychotic Disorders’ had financial ties to drug companies. Today the veryvocabulary of psychiatry is now defined at all levels by the pharmaceuticalindustry assert Dr Irwin Savodnik, an assistant clinical professor ofpsychiatry at the University of California at Los Angeles.

 One well-paid example being investigated isThe Assistant Director of the Pediatric Psychopharmacology Unit atMassachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Psychiatry atHarvard Medical School.  When Ritalin was developed, they needed amarket and then declared this behavior needed the drug they wanted tosell. The task of psychologists, educators, anddoctors is not to put children on chemicals for their conduct. Placing childrenin the hands of a pharmaceutical market because the entire society cannothandle the products of its misguided theories of man and raising children is aform of insanity.

 In the United States, every tenth boy amongten year-olds swallows an ADHD medication on a daily basis. It is easier tomake the child the blame of all the home problems. Let us return to thebasic matter of personal psychology and education where the child is to acquirepersonal responsibility and appropriate behavior under sensible guidance – andthat takes the family and the schools. My experience from a family member isthat the child's behavior is his/her scapegoat reactions to a dysfunctionalhome environment as alcoholism or other chronic addictions.
