According to Men’s Health Magazine, mental health, depression and thoughts of suicide remain subjects surrounded by stigma, which is slowly being broken down through open and honest conversations. Eight out of ten suicide completions are men. There’s a stigma surrounding mental illness, and another surrounding thoughts of suicide.
Women attempt three times as often, but men complete more often because they tend to choose more lethal measures.
Communication on this topic is especially crucial for men, who often suffer in silence; suicide rates among men continue to climb.
The importance of discussing mental wellness with your male friends, and being able to reach out for help when you need it, cannot be understated.
