Step to the Side
Bob Mager, the training guru, wrote a book once with a subtitle something like, You Really Oughta Wanna. In other words, you have to have the desire to change if the change is going to have a chance of improving your habits and behavior.
That means performance, not symbolism. I’d rather tolerate someone chronically late who adds vitally to meetings and discussions than someone who’s always on time and resembles a large rock.
Lip service is easy. You don’t need to go to the gym for that. But you do need to get out of the way of the rest of us who are really trying to create better conditions.
