Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, a unique opportunity to spread a little kindness in the community is at hand. Now in its ninth year, Giving Tuesday – which always follows Cyber Monday and this year falls on Tuesday, Nov. 30 — serves as “a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity,” according to givingtuesday.org.
The movement was created in 2012 to encourage people to do good during a season of generosity all too often overshadowed by rampant commercialism. Now a global movement, the day inspires millions to give to charities and nonprofits of their choice during the holiday season.
Even if you can’t give much, or at all, simply helping a neighbor, making someone smile or assisting a person in need are all in the spirit of Giving Tuesday.
The Georgetowner has put together a list of charitable organizations you might consider if you’re looking to get into the spirit of giving. And certainly, we could all use a helping hand and more seasonal warmth and joy during these challenging times.
Happy Giving!
