Create Dazzling Videos

to Transfix Audiences

and Springboard Your Business

WEBINAR)

with Eric Chester, CSP, CPAE

Eric ChesterWe hear again and again that video is the best way to capture and keep attention. And it?s true. But there?s video, and then there?s video.

Many speakers? videos show them as a talking head. Quick and easy to produce, perhaps, but not very compelling.

How do you create a dynamic video that will generate buzz and people will tell others about? Eric Chester isn?t a video guy ? he?s a speaker. But he?s learned how to create fabulous videos that help him sell as well as get his message across.

You won?t want to miss seeing how he does it.

More details of this session below, then register or pre-order the CD or MP3. Note: Everyone who registers for the webinar will get the MP3 recording of the session for free. Also, everyone who registers for the webinar session or orders the recording will get a link to the recorded video of the online webinar.

Feedback on SNN teleseminars/webinars:

?SpeakerNet News seminars are a university of learning.? ?Marv Marshall

?Rebecca is indeed the ?Barbara Walters? of the SNN professional interview series. Her questions are fair, probing, and incisive to get the best results from the interviewee. She does a great job keeping to the topic, and deftly steering off tangents. SNN is a goldmine of great help for us all.? ?Elaina Zuker

Miscellaneous Tips

Broadcast email service ? Tom Gray

MailChimp.com provides a full-service broadcast email service (think aWeber, Constant Contact or Vertical Response) with a sense of humor. And for those who haven?t built up a massive email list yet, their service is no-charge until you pass 2000 subscribers. Well I?ll be a monkey?s uncle!

(Editors? note: Tom shared easy-to-follow instructions in his SNN teleseminar How to Start a Blog: A Step-by-Step Guide. You can order the CD or MP3.)

Compilation of unusual biz cards ? Alan Black

How to give back without feeling taken ? Elaina Zuker

Seasoned speakers often get asked by newer ones ?to pick your brain? or to ?get together to find out how you?ve managed your business/career.? Although you?d like to be giving and mentor others, it can get time-consuming. You don?t want to be seen as selfish or withholding, but on the other hand, your time is money.

I have managed this by hosting a ?salon,? ?open house,? or ?clinic? one Friday a month at my office. People were welcome to stop by, network with each other, and ask me anything, and I often had other seasoned people around as well, so it wasn?t all newbies. If a person still felt unsatisfied, and wanted to pick my brain, I?d suggest they call for a professional one-hour appointment. Usually the fee was too high. It?s important to be nice to others coming up behind you. You might need them if you?re ever on the way down.

Use polls in your presentations ? Mike Domitrz

Use PollEverywhere.com to poll your audience with their cell phones and/or have them provide immediate evaluation feedback upon conclusion of your presentation. You can show results IN your PowerPoint LIVE as they respond or walk off stage and show your client all the amazing feedback the audience has texted you about the presentation.

(Editors? note: Mike shared some great ideas in his SNN teleseminar, "Use Unusual Products for More Credibility and Bigger Audiences, and to Help Your Bottom Line")

Writing tip ? Lynda McDaniel

To write faster, keep the writing and editing processes separate. Write your first draft as fast as you can without stopping. This increases your speed and your creativity. (Something about momentum opens the door to your creative brain.) If you?re stumped for the right word, simply type ?xxx? and keep going. When you go back to edit, the right word will pop into your head.

Technology Tips

iPad apps I can?t live without ? Anna Conrad

For business:

  • Notarize: write on PDF documents. This is great for client meetings and signing contracts.
  • Evernote: no more PostIt Notes everywhere!
  • Pages and Numbers: the light versions of the Mac software, but compatible with Word and Excel
  • LogMeIn: access your home or office computer real-time
  • Daylite: for Mac users, but a good, affordable CRM. The product is great, but the customer service (or lack of) is horrible.
  • Read It Later

For fun:

  • Scrabble
  • Kindle: go here for free Kindle books daily, including business books
  • Pandora: if you can block out the political commercials on some stations, it is a music lover?s dream!
  • Netflix
  • Day One: your online journal

Use a lamp timer for cell phone charging ? Mike Schatzki

The logical time to charge your cell phone battery is overnight. The problem is that if you keep it plugged in after it is fully charged, the battery will deteriorate over time ? at least according to the folks at Verizon.

A simple lamp timer can solve this problem. I plug the phone into the timer before I go to bed and set the timer for about the number of hours I think will phone will need to be fully changed. It shuts off automatically at the set time so I never overcharge.

Travel Tips

When you lose your ID ? Jenny de St Georges

After having lost my driver?s license on the road, I now always keep my expired driver?s license. I?m carrying 3 besides the current one. I have gotten on planes, as they do not always look at expiration date, but they are getting stickier. When I dropped my driver?s license in a taxi, AA accepted the photo ID without current date and walked me thru Security.

I have laminated both passports and current driver?s license and carry them in a travel wallet, not in my money wallet. Again this laminated passport ID has been accepted by AA when I arrived without my passport. They let me process my luggage on the strength of the copy. I dashed home and got the real thing. They only asked I show them the real McCoy before I went thru Security but my luggage was on its way before and made the plane, which it would not have done if it had been delayed.

Why you shouldn?t trust your hotel-room safe ? Pat Raymond

If you?re a frequent traveler, you?ve probably seen electronic safes in your hotel room. If what?s in this video is true, it?s scary. Snopes.com has nothing on it. How about SNN readers on the road right now reporting back on trying all zeroes on their hotel safes? Email me directly.

Topic of the Month

Sticky situation:

You agreed to speak for free for a non-profit fundraiser at a corporate venue under the conditions that they will 1) get sponsors to buy a one of your books (at a discount) for all 150 attendees, 2) give you the cards from the executive attendees who entered a raffle for another of your books, and 3) allow you to sell your additional books BOR.

The contact says they are holding a drawing so you don?t need to do your own. You confirm that you can have the cards afterwards, and are told yes.

They buy 125 books with money from sponsors.

While setting up your BOR table, your contact tells you their VP of HR says you can?t sell your books. When you said you were promised you could, she said the policy changed. You can hand out order forms, but you know that yields many fewer sales.

The presentation went great, with nearly everyone lining up to get their sponsored book autographed. You didn?t bother getting anyone?s cards since you are getting the fishbowl full afterwards.

After packing up, you ask your contact for the fishbowl?s cards. She says the person with the fishbowl left so she?ll follow up tomorrow. When you email about the cards the next day, she tells you the cards have been thrown away ? and besides, their privacy policy wouldn?t have let you have them.

What would you do? You don?t want to alienate this contact as she could bad-mouth you to her board of influential executives.

Please send your brief, pithy responses to editor@ SpeakerNetNews.com. Please put ?Topic of the Month? or ?TOTM? in the subject line.

Requests for Info / Advice

Android smartphone question ? Robert Fink

I use a Motorola Atrix 4G phone on AT&T and have found that many of the incoming emails have ?attachments? in HTML format. When I try to open these attachments, I get an error message that the ?content cannot be found? (it defaults to Google?s browser). When I retrieve such email using my regular laptop or desktop, the ?attachments? come right through and do not have to be opened separately.

This problem began only after I upgraded the Android Operating System from 2.2 to 2.3 as instructed by Google on the phone.

Has anyone else had this problem, and, if so, have you fixed it?

WEBINAR)

with Eric Chester, CSP, CPAE

Eric ChesterIf a picture is worth 1000 words, what?s a compelling video worth? Tens of thousands of dollars. Perhaps six figures. Maybe millions. If it?s a video that is well-crafted and so intriguing others can?t help but pass it along ? to their many followers, Facebook friends, and LinkedIn connections.

Amazing, original short videos can help you secure more engagements, promote your event or presentation, enhance your program, launch your book, and create more fans.
