Speaking Internationally
You yearn to travel beyond your borders to interesting cities. But your leisure travel budget has disappeared in recent years. You know your topic would be of interest to those living in foreign countries, but how do you get booked in other lands? There are specific steps you can take to get speaking, training, and/or consulting engagements abroad. But you have to know whom to contact and the right approach. These three MP3s will help you understand what you must do and what to avoid when getting booked abroad. You'll even learn how to get articles published in foreign periodicals to make yourself more appealing to potential clients.

Miscellaneous Tips
Eliminate useless termsMitch Krayton A report from LinkedIn about useless terms found on member profiles is a good lesson for speakers and their one-sheets, too.
Include "Click to Look Inside" in a news releaseMitch Davis Here's how to do it:
  1. Copy the image from Amazon.com
  2. Size the image for your use
  3. Upload to photobucket.com
  4. Get the embed code
  5. Swap out the Amazon link for the photobucket library code
  6. Load that HTML into the release

Cartoon suggestionLinda Talley If you want to differentiate yourself from other speakers, use a cartoon. I have been using cartoonist Dave Bamberg (713/724-7519, dave@davidbamberg.com) for years to add a little pizzazz to my website and articles.
Freebies to make you stand outRebecca Morgan Offering a free ebook, white paper, calculator, assessment test, help sheet, reference chart or test drive is a great way for speakers to get potential clients to know, like, and trust them. Joan Stewart's article, "17 Fun Freebies That Build Thought Leadership" shares ideas we can adapt.
"To stop" listRobin Speculand As we prepare for 2012, many of us are making new plans, targeting new markets and discussing new ideas. It's all about leaping out of the January starting blocks and setting the pace for the year ahead. To make this happen even more effectively for our clients (and ourselves), you should consider creating a "To Stop" list. When we initially work with a client's leadership team we ask them to identify not only new actions, but also as a result of implementing the new strategy, "what must the organization/people stop doing?" It is a very powerful list that can be twice as long as the to-do list. So as you plan for 2012 ask yourself, "To achieve my 2012 goals, what must I stop doing?"
Technology Tips
Facebook messagesJeffrey Deutsch While Facebook has a setting for sending you copies of messages you get, more times than I care to count that has failed. If people send you Facebook messages that you consider important, by all means log onto Facebook and check them once in a while. In fact, specifically check your "Other" folder within your Facebook messages from time to time. This article explains it.
WordPress pluginsSusan Friedmann If you want to monetize your WordPress site, this article has some super plugins to help make the process easier!
Topic of the Month
Our TOTM was inspired by Halelly Azulay, who asked for unusual ways you call participants back from an activity. This is the last issue we'll post responses for this TOTM
Susan Page To reconvene a noisy group, before they break up, tell them, "When you see anyone with a hand up (demonstrate by raising your right hand), immediately stop talking and raise your own hand." When you are ready to reconvene them, all you have to do is raise your hand. I have used this method for years with great success. It's fast. It's mildly amusing, so it leaves people smiling. It's unobtrusive, no loud noises. It involves everyone in achieving the goal. It's like magic. You'll have everyone back together in no time!
Our next TOTM is our annual question: What's the best *new* business practice you initiated in 2011? Please send your brief, pithy responses to editor@SpeakerNetNews.com. Please put "Topic of the Month" or "TOTM" in the subject line.
